Time to install Basslink ???
 

I want to install a Basslink (Bose system) and wonder how fast I can do a quick and dirty install. By that I mean, have it connected and working but perhaps not permantly mounted.

Second questions is does any body have suggestions on how to make it easily removalable for time on the track. (weight is bad...) Yeah, no wise cracks about eating less...

I love the idea of a sub in the trunk pass through space but that is where my camera mount goes and would presumably means a custom job, and less removable.

If you really want a quick and dirty install, assuming stock base stereo, its very easy. However, by "really quick and dirty" I mean you're tying off the line level inputs to the rear speaker and not connecting the fronts. That's what I did, and I've been too lazy to go back and do it right, unfortunately, so if I fade the sound to the front I lose bass. Its not a huge problem though, I don't monkey with the faders much, so I put it where I want it and then adjust the bass accordingly. Since I'm still using stock main speaker amplification (my external amp is also still sitting in the box :( ) the Basslink has no trouble compensating for the reduced power if I am not running the rears full out.

Thanks so far. How much time will it take to get it connected if I only feed from the rears and don't try to hide the wires to the 'bass control' remote upfront?

While mechanically inclined and 'electrically aware' I haven't played with a car stereo in 20 years. I am trying to plan out when I can do this job and if I can get it done before an 8 hour drive to VA this Friday.

Seems like all I need to do is find power, good ground, left and right rear signal in the trunk... right? If not, what else am I missing?


I can finalize the job next week sometime.

Took my time and had it done in about 2 hours, took me about 30 mins to get through the firewall boot, driver side. Wanted to make sure and miss the wires. Coathanger did the trick. I tapped the rear speakers for the inputs, sounds great.
