Thinking of mounting a cup holder... someplace
I don't like driving the car with a cup in the cup-holder - kinda gets in the way of the shifter. This isn't news - it was like that when I bought it of course. But I'm thinking mounting a cup holder somewhere; e.g. coming from the passenger side near the e-brake.
Anyone done anything like this? I'm not oppossed to drilling into the car... but I'd like to see what other options I've got. Thanks. |
you should not be drinking, eating , smoking in the rx8
you should only drive j/k |
hold it between your legs...especially during the winter burning hot coffee is great as it will keep your legs warm if you don't have the heated seats
actually...just install a water fountain (called bubbler for you Wisconsinites) in your car...easy as pie and lets you have a place to spit when you have a bad taste in your mouth |

To the right of the CD player between the piano black trim and the glove box is a tab that can be removed. I bet a dollar there is a screw under there. I bet another dollar you could get a longer screw and mount the cup holder there.

Hey, about that drinking, eating, etc. in the car thing... I don't allow eating (unless I'm by myself ;) ) but I very often have a big 'ol cup of coffee with me... just want a safe place to keep it other than between my legs when I'm "driving". :) Thanks... and I'll report back on the little tab thing... |
Well, I pulled that little plug - there's NOTHING behind it. I mean nothing... I put a finger in there, felt nothing but a big empty void. I put a long screwdriver in and finally hit metal.
I'll take another look, with light, but it seems like the solution is to fab' a mount that sandwiches the dash - tightening from the back. One bolt though.... probably not going to be very stable given the material - 30 mils of plastic dash... I'll let you know if I come up with anything... |
