Is there a Nav System software update?

I thought I saw a thread discussing a software update (not DVD) that resolves some of the Nav issues like "voice not shutting off" but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know where that thread is or if that update is available? Also I was wondering how many versions are out there (US). Mine is U9.95 2003.1

Com'on, help me out here. Can some of you with Navs post your software version?

I think we did this before and everyone has a 2002 disc. New ones are about $199 when they come out.

I also have problems getting the voice off due to a non-resonsive button.

oops, just notice you said 'not the DVD', I know that my software is 2003 but can't get the version at the moment.

Just got my nav system main control unit switched out under warranty. I can now turn voice assist off and limit the voice prompts. Much better. I was so tired of that nagging voice interupting the radio every few minutes telling me things like "Stay Straight ahead" when I am 2 miles away. Duh, like I need to know that? It is quite nice when the system reminds you when to turn but when it has to remind you not to turn, for me that is too much assistance. It is also silent now when calculating reroutes, another irritating voice prompt. Many thanks to Phelan at the dealership for staying on UR till they agreed to switch it out. The Software version is now "U9.136.2003.7" Mazda logo displays on startup.

Hi there,

Can you tell me what exactly did you say to your dealer? I know my nav system does the same thing and it gets pretty annoying after a while (calculating reroute, stay straight, etc.). Plus, the time is off by an hour, and I cant figure out a way to adjust it. What exactly did they replace? Is there like a part or warranty number I can refer to?

Thanks a bunch.

The more I think of this issue - the less I want a upgrade now - best to get it later in the warranty period. I don't think Mazda going to go for repeated upgrades over the next 4 years.

OK, here goes one more time. Some early Navs have a bug/defect. Once you enable "voice assist" it will not turn off. The easiest way to tell if your Nav has this issue is to turn voice assist off and set the nav to a known destination. Deviate causing the nav to calculate a reroute. If the voice annnounces "Calculating Reroute" then your nav is as mine was. Supposedly a firmware upgrade can fix this but currently there is not a way to perform this in the car (I am not referring to the DVD. This is the firmware that stays in the unit). The unit is located in the rear center console and must be replaced with a unit running the newer software version (Mazda Logo Boot).

Regarding the time. Simple one - Go to setup and turn DST on/off.

Cool beans.......... thanks! Will try test the voice assist thingamagik. My car's build date is back in 7/2003. My initial guess is that the dvd nav I have in my car is the faulty version. Plus, i dont get the Mazda splash screen.

Thanks again.......
