The solobarics that I was referring to were the round model - the one's before the squares. Yes a square is 20% larger than a circle. The squares are rowdy, but require really large enclosures. I also question their long term durability.

To respond to the amp questions. Yes, I stole that amp for $175.00 used. Yes it is a version 1. Yes it is a few years old. JL is fixing to discontinue the slash series amps - per my local JL dealer. Look up the specs on the 10w3v3 subwoofers. The are rated at 300 rms optimum and 500 watts max. The 500/1 will work just fine with that sub in a sealed enclosure. I have a 1000/1 pushing an 18w3 (rated at 500 rms), in a sealed box, and it is fine. Just set up amps via the DMM method and you will avoid problems.

Back in the day, I used this with a combination of box modeling software. DMM to insure unclipped power output, and software to show amount of power to push that specific subwoofer to Xmax in that specific enclosure. Never once blown any speaker. Despite pushing, sometimes double, the rated power.

Okay I know some have been waiting for some updates. I received the subwoofer a few days ago. It is not what had purchased so I am having to go through the whole file a claim ebay process. Ugh some people suck. Anyways I used what they sent to finish mocking up my box. Here are some pictures.

Unless I can find a trim ring for this subwoofer then it is going back to the dillhole that I ordered it from, and I'll have to purchase another one from somewhere else.

I will test fit it this evening and if it's golden then I will carpet the enclosure and mount it in the trunk. Pics will follow... stay tuned.

you could run the carpet over that exposed wood ring you got if you worried about returning your sub. Looks good though lots of hard work paying off

Sorry for the confusion. All will become clear when the new sub that I ordered today arrives. I had to send the one in the above pictures back as is was not complete (missing the trim ring). I will have completed pictures up ASAP.

Yes the wooden ring will be covered with carpet. It's hard to tell by the pictures but the subwoofer is recessed into the ring. I cut the ring slightly larger than the outer diameter of the subwoofer so that I can fold the carpet down into the recessed part around the subwoofer. I did not want a cut edge of carpet exposed on the front of the box.

UPS tracking says the sub that I ordered should be here Tue or Wed. I'll finish it up then. :)

Spent today changing the coolant line to the thermo wax on our 88 2nd gen vert. That job sucks, I had to remove the entire upper manifold including the throttle body in order to replace that hose.

Made a little progress today. Still waiting on the sub to get here in a few days.

Yes, I know that the carpet is not a perfect match.

Looks fantastic and fits perfectly. Maybe hit up a junk yard to find an 8 with the same carpet? I wouldn't stew about it too much though. Looks great.

I dont know what you do for a living , but great job on the sub enclosure. I used to install car audio for a living and saw a lot of hacked jobs done. I am sure Firebird can back me up on all the stupid shi* we have both seen done.

I have to share just one we had a customre show up who had his work done by another shop. That shopped bad mouth us to the customer the entire time.

Told the customer we would install the stuff and then steal it back. All our jobs were hack jobs.

Well they built him a battery box in his trunk, but he could not figure why it kept shutting off.

The box was made half wood and the other half was a piece of a speed limit sign, the kicker was the battery was held in the box by a pants belt and the box was not mounted down.

And we were the hacks!

When stuff like that would roll in, I'd roll it right back out.

I found it easier to do it this way. Putting the bolt from inside the box was more difficult and did not allow me to jam the bolt at the rivnut.

I put a piece of this foam that I cut out of a bigger piece behind the over sized washer.
