Sub Pops

I've noticed that when I start my 8 my Sub makes this really loud Pop noise. Can't be good for the sub. Any idea what might be causing this? bad ground?

Bose headunit, but even with it off it pops. Remote wire is hooked to the auxiliary cigarette lighter plug. No aux in units. It's grounded to a bolt I found in the trunk, near the trunk latch. I have a LOC installed.

Could be a timing issue with your amp coming on and the stereo itself. The amp sounds like it's on and ready to go prior to your stereo actually turning on. When the stereo finally turns on it's hitting the amp with a signal and thus causing the pop. Does it do the same when you turn it off? How about if you turn the stereo off/on after everything is already up and running?

nope, only when I start the car. I've also noticed that it's even worse when I use my push-button starter. That uses the power from the main cigarette lighter and the ground.

Sounds like you might have a grounding issue my friend. Do you have (or access to) a digital volt meter to check it?

unfortunately, grounding our systems in the trunk seems to be very hit or miss. I've seen some people get good grounds while others have bad results.

If you dont' mine a little work this weekend, I'd recommend grounding back to the battery.

IT may be a bad ground but I am going to point my finger at the amp and it's turn on circuit. What amp is it? A speaker will generally pop when the amp is powering on or off before the is a signal on the input stages of the amp. You need to either get the amp looked at, double check the ground or build a turn on delay circuit so that there is signal on the input stage before the amp turns on.
