stock system question
 

so i purchased my 8 about a month ago used and it has around 30k miles on it with the premium sound system. but how come when i press the text/ audio cont button on the dash it shows up as ALC OFF instead of Audio PLT on. i just read the manual and it says if the car is equippted with the premium sound system which is the bose system(i hope im right) if you press the button it should go Audio PLT On--> Bass--->treb--->fade--->bal---->beep on. but instead mine goes ALC OFF--->BASS--->MID--->TREB--->FADE--->BAL--->BEEP ON which is the standard audio equippted model. i hope u guys understand my question :Eyecrazy:

If you can look at your speakers and see a "Bose" tag on them you should have a bose head unit which should do what you want. If the speakers don't have the "Bose" tag on them.. then you got ripped off. but the good news is the HU is working correctly.

Yeah, sounds like you don't have the premium Bose system. Don't feel too bad—the general feeling here is that the premium system isn't that good. I have it and find its sound disappointing. I haven't compared the sound to the stock system, though.

Pick up a set of infinity 6X9's for the rears and a set of infinity 6800c's for the fronts and youll blow away the bose system in 4.1 seconds flat.

yeah i have the bose tag on the front speaker like the small 1 on the door

Are you running those speakers with everything else stock or some other setup? I'm assuming those are the 2 ohm Infinitys. (?)

Im running them at 4 ohms with an infinity reference 7541a.
111w @ 4 ohms x 4 or 139w @ 2 ohms x 4.

Its awesome. The amp has a hi-level inputs so you can go directly from the factory speaker outputs into the amp without the need for a line out converter :]

Sounds like the P/O removed or replaced the Head Unit. May have broken and didn't like the price of new.

I'll tell you right now that if your radio has an option for MID, then you do NOT have the stock stereo system. It is most likely teh BOSE system. My stock stereo did NOT come with a MIDBASS option, only BASS and then TREBLE. Which is why I put an aftermarket Pioneer AVIC-Z1 in there. :-P
