Stock seat look, racing seat performance?

Disclaimer: I realize this is a rediculus question. Just bear with me.

My full intention was to get Bride Gaia seats with Lomax rails. This setup seems to be the best for the 8. Good seat height, "hugging" seats, not a bad price (gulp).

I was ready to hit the buy button the other day but ran into a snag online. I had to wait several days to call the company back and by that time my brain had time to work. (this is not a good thing.)

What I started thinking was that for the kind of cash that you would put down for brides, maybe I could find someone to "edit" my stock seats. If I could just have the driverside grip my butt and back alittle more, I would be happy. Certainly, this kind of work is in the same ballpark as a set of two brides? Again I realize this is way out there, but does anyone know anyone (short of Foose or someone of that ilk) that could professionally modify a stock seat? The way I see it, this is the best of both worlds; no rice, no loose butt, keep the airbags, keep the power seat.

This is done for motorcycles quite a bit (for obvious reasons)

[afraid to hit submit...]

just to bump this for those at work...

My bro-in-law works for a custom auto installer. One guy he works with actually re-upholsters stock and aftermarket seats with leather or what ever you want. He also said that it is pretty common to add padding to stock seats when they have some specific deficit that the customer wants fixed. While this sounds well and good, I would be concerned that the guy that does the stitching (doing it for thirty years) would do a good looking job, but maybe miss some of the "science" that goes into making a semi-race seat. Anyone know if there are companys or shops that do this as a speciality?

As far as the stock seat goes, I haven't seen a good way to install a 4+ point harness. The problem being the shoulder belts. If you are looking for this, the Bride would be the way to go if you were installing the harness.

whats the price your looking at for the seats i found some brand new shipped to the door sparco evo II for $1250.00 if thats something your looking for then i will see if they still there.but if thats to rich for ya then maybe you could say fuck it and try to custom it to you yourselve and then take it to get sewn the only big ( i stress big) difference between stock and racing for the sticthing is that most stock is single or double but a racing is quadruple or better. but thats about it for my knowledge on sets hope i helped

and for the harnesses with the stock seats before you have the guy sew it up find where you want to place you harness and cut them in and have place a plastic slevve in the hole big enough for you to pass the harnesses thru like bigg pvc pipe and have the guy sew those up to and vawla you have some pretty nice ass seats

Thanks for the comments and advice, particularly regarding the stitching. Regarding harnesses, this is not a priority. I am comfortable with the current three points. My main priority is limiting "butt-slip". Certainly, any well-fit aftermarket seat will perform; however, why spend +$4k on two seats that will label me a ricer when I could have a pro 'remanufacture' only my driver seat to my specification. This has the benifit of retaining airbags, retaining the conservative "look" and only modifing the seat that will be used.

The problem is "who?" As of yet, I haven't found anyone that might be able to do this.

i got two questions to help your search for what sounds like " the perfect sleeper seats"

1: where are you located i need a zip and a state
2: how much is too much be honest and not cheap i know some people here and there and i see what can happen.

carbonRX8 04-17-2007 06:20 PM

Sure.

1:20902 in Maryland
2:Enough to get the job done. Not so much as to be stupid. Generally what someone would pay for one betterseat. (where better is between good and best and good is retail sparco, recaro, bride, and best are the seats in a ferrari. There is an exponential gradient there.)

cool i check it out for ya
