Stock radio and NAV
 

Anyone have the stock radio and the navigation system? I went to the dealer yesterday and finally test drove one. I was initially going to go for the touring package, but after sitting in it with a sunroof and a model without a sunroof, I realized that having the extra headroom is a lot more comfortable for me. My only concern is what I've heard on here - that the bose radio automatically lowers the radio volume when the navigation system speaks. Is this a function of the bose radio or the navigation system. It would make sense to me that it should be a function of the NAV since you're obviously going to need to have the volume lowered on any radio you have installed. My Mazda dealer checked with her manager and said "He thinks so" which isn't good enough. I guess I could call Mazda directly, but thought I'd check here first....

Only the left speaker "talks" with nav commands. It automatically lowers the Bose radio noise to give commands.

I went to LA on Monday for a class; first long trip with the car. It was very nice. I used the NAV system to try it out while listening to the radio.

I found it quiet and hard to hear at times since the radio was up. I foundt that I could have adjusted the NAV volume up (it has a 0-4 level and mine is on 2) so I could have made the NAV louder.

The voice can be turned off using the menu. The system has the ability to start talking to you at the push of a button when you need it.

It took me a while to figure out how to cancel a destination or turn off the voice commands.

I think they did a really clean job in setting up the NAV; a person just has to get us to the functions.

BTW, the Bose radio has a function of lowering the volume in relation to what speed and how much other noise is being produced in the car. As you get off the freeway and start to slow down, the radio (I think it's called "auto pilot") will get quieter with less noise. This function can also be turned off at the radio.

So, NAV volume and radio volume are two seperate functions.

Hmmm...so it sounds like at least with the Bose radio the radio volume is automatically lowered - I can assume that this should be true for the stock radio then? (since you said "it" lowers the Bose radio, I'm interpretting "it" as "the NAV" proactively lowers the volume) Can anyone confirm that?

How do you cancel a destination on the nav system? I still can't figure it out. The only way I can get it to stop is to reach a destination but sometimes I just want to stop it.

When you press Enter a menu will appear on screen. At the bottom of the menu you can choose to turn the guidance off.

To resume guidance turn the guidance on using the menu or select another destination.
