Sirius for 2005 RX8 ?

Hi! my honey has a Black 2005 RX8 and I wanted to see if I could get him a Sirius Radio with an IPOD connector for his birthday.. but don't want to ruin the "look" of the internal audio system.

Any suggestions? Has anyone replaced or added a sirius radio to their car and are happy with the look and connectivity to the car speakers?

Thanks for your help!

The biggest issue here is the fact you want Sirius AND iPod connectivity. The factory radio has one port in the back of it, that both options use. So if you wanted the "REAL" factory Sirius option, you would have no available port for the iPod option. But here's a link to the Factory Sirius part:

Here's the link for a great iPod connectivity box:

Your only way to truly have both options, in all their glory, is to have an out-board style Sirius unit. Such as this one:

The obvious thing that sucks about that is you will have to find a home for it in the car. Somewhere within reach while driving, AND have it not look hideous. Not a real easy task. If you do end up taking this route, you'll WANT/NEED the FM modulator option to maintain awesome sound quality.

Ipod vs. Sirius

I guess I will have to see which one I think he will use more...

Do all RX8s have the jack for the Sirius / Ipod connectivity by Default? Are we talking about the Auxilary button on the radio? I don't remember if he has one.. and I can't really ask him.

Thanks again for all of your help.

After remembering some topics I've read on here, and doing some more research.... you CAN have both options if the iPod interface uses the tape/MiniDisc port on the back of the radio. (I'm sure he doesn't have the MiniDisc player does he?)

The two iPod interfaces that use the MD port are the AUXmod and Axxess.

Then you could just use the factory Sirius option to plug into the CD changer port.

If you're giving up on having both, I know I would use the iPod a hell of a lot more than Sirius. I'm sure most of the users on this board would agree with me on that.

Well, I sort of have both... and I stress "sort of"

I mounted a Sirius Stilleto radio w/ dock in my cup holders and put a splitter on the line-in so I have a regular headphone jack to plug into any other device, including an ipod. But, I am not crazy about the design because I lose my cup holders, but I rarely drink/eat in the car, but the mp3 player/ipod has to sit on the passenger seat and it looks really unfinished.

BUT - I didn't clutter my dash with an external Sirius radio dock, and I have a direct line-in for my mp3 players - or on road trips when I plug in the laptop and watch movies. So it works for me.

I have factory Sirus in my '05 and quite frankly would prefer an iPod adapter instead.

Panavise sells a decent mount if you decide to go the non-factory Sirius route:

I have the factory Sirius, but to be honest, the newer Sirius radios you can get at Circuit City or Radio Shack are better.

Thanks everyone

I appreciate everyone's comments. I get the feeling.. from side comments.. that he would like the ipod connector more than Sirius.. so I may do something else entirely.

Thanks again!
