Side pillar gauge pod

Does anyone know where I can find a 2 guage pod pillar? For the side windshield part you know what I mean? I can;t find one anywhere.....is there something that will fit there thats not specifically made for the rx8? I have the dash pod from gaugepods.com but they don't make one for the side pillar....

Thanks

I found these from Carbontrix. Don't know if anybody has them yet?

So you want to remove an airbag and replace it with a turbo timer and oil pressure gauge? Better off with some of the other gauge pod positions IMHO.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think from photos I've seen, the airbag is a curtain type located along the headliner above the door, not behind the plastic cover of the A-pillar. This would make sense as any airbag in the actual pillar that would go off from a front three-quarter hit would be hidden behind the steering wheel airbag I should think.

The A-pillar itself says SRS Airbag, and on the passenger side there is the entry handle to deal with in the headliner. The airbag is in the A-pillar, although I agree this seems to be in the wrong place for certain angles of crashes.

Or I should say it has to be in the A-pillar from looking at it, it couldn't be in the headliner do to location of other stuff.

DeViLbOi 03-19-2008 08:40 PM

Well...it couldn't be in the headliner because of the position of my head. I would no longer have to worry about a head injury from the crash, the airbag would have taken care of it. Also, there is an airbag in the rear pillar as well so they must have come up with something for it. But when you take yours off and it goes off by accident, let us know how it works. :P

Not that I would use it...but it would be nice if someone developed a carbon fiber insert for the ash tray hole for two or three gauges. Just so it is made easier on everyone that wants gauges.

Georgia8er 03-19-2008 08:46 PM

There is the Racing Beat ashtray kit, but not in carbon fiber.

DeViLbOi 03-19-2008 08:49 PM

See...I have no use for it so I haven't looked. Too busy looking for a way around ordering a Corksport kit.

AFAK, there are no airbags on the A pillar... I know it that has the airbag symbol/logo on it but it's actually located at the roof lining by the a pillar, not behind the a pillar interior piece.

Not that I have any interest in adding gauges of any sort to my car, but this site has some nice shots of where the deployed airbags are located and they certainly seem to be along the headliner above the doors, with what might be a tether or something leading to the A and C pillars (assuming we can call the rear doors the B pillars).

Scroll down a bit as the photos don't link to anything...

It just doesn't seem right (from looking at the headliner) that it should come from there. I'm not arguing, I agree, it just doesn't look right to me. :)

that's what I thought too at first but after seeing pics of the deployed SRS airbags, it all made sense to me.

cnock 03-20-2008 06:42 PM

so why doesnt a company make one by now? Lotek makes one fro every damn car on the planet. Why no a pillar love? Their the most common place for them i dont get it.

The reason the SRS logo is on the a-pillar is simple...it's within eyesight to let you know there is SRS equiptment in that general location. As far an a-pillar gauge pod...I've only seen a couple custom jobs. The RB ashtray pod is probably the best, for the price anyways.

Jedi54 03-20-2008 07:52 PM

A-Pillar does not have an airbag in it.

Razz1 03-20-2008 08:15 PM

I like the lotec unit on the dash.

Try a search, I swear I have seen two or three pillar pods.

cnock 03-20-2008 08:29 PM

If we show enough interest couldnt we show lotek theirs a demand?

sauceyI986 03-21-2008 12:55 AM

yes it does not have an airbag this has been discussed about 2 years ago.
