Sat Nav Modification

I wanted to make my SAT Nav into a possible DVD player?

I've been told this could happen but wasnt sure if its true.

If I can make this happen, how do I do this? I dont mind paying whatever as long as its a proper job.

Thanks. :Peace:

You want to run a carputer, or a custom lcd screen in the stock nav trim.

I have done it. You need some sort of video switcher and a dvd player. Most people on here used to buy AVelectronics video switcher but I didnt want to spend $300 on just the video switcher. I found one on ebay from TVandNAV2go and I submitted a best offer and got it for $150 (If you buy from them make sure you tell them you have a rx-8 as you need an additional relay, didnt charge me for it).

After I installed it I used my PS2 as a dvd player. A few months later I got a dvd player from ebay for $70 and a back-up camera for $30. I installed both and changed the switch to a three way switch. The center position is navigation, switched to the front is the dvd player, and switched to the back is the camera. The camera also turns on when I shift into reverse.

I dont really trust shops when it comes to installing electronics. I didnt want them to use crappy quick connectors that might shake loose from vibration. I installed everything myself and soldered all connection. This thread helped a lot: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-s-video-into-nav-av-electronic-video-switcher-install-44095/

Install really isn't that hard if you know how to solder. I did this when I was 17. I would recommend doing this yourself as you will save few hundred dollars, you can make sure everything is done properly, and can choose where to put everything.

And for anyone who questions the quality of ebay parts. Yes, there are shitty parts on ebay, but if you know where to look, you can find some good products for a good price. I've had everything installed for 4 years and haven't had a single problem.

Let me know if you have any questions. I can even take pictures of my setup if you'd like.
