I'm sure returning it is no problem, I just don't wanna tear my dash apart again :-)
Could you do me a favor n take a pic of the wire side of the plug? In curious if the wires on your go into different pin holes. Also read that some thought a resistor was inline with the looped wire.... see that on yours?
Might just buy it from you for later

OR

So, here's one I can vouch for:
Amazon.com : Moonet Car Usb/SD Mp3 Player Interface AUX in Adapter Connect Iphone 5 5s Blackberry Samsung for Mazda 3 5 6 323 Miata Mazdaspd Protege Mx5 MPV Rx8 B-Series Pickup CX7 Miata Tribute : Electronics Amazon.com : Moonet Car Usb/SD Mp3 Player Interface AUX in Adapter Connect Iphone 5 5s Blackberry Samsung for Mazda 3 5 6 323 Miata Mazdaspd Protege Mx5 MPV Rx8 B-Series Pickup CX7 Miata Tribute : Electronics

Easy install...literally took 5 minutes. I believe it's called a CDX AUX, meaning it uses the CD button to open an EX mode. It utilizes a 3.5mm jack as well as a USB port. Thus far, no problems

Probably doesn't work with the older 9.51-9.55. Someone should try though. I have the original firmware but I use the Auxmod and it is not firmware dependant.

I bought that same cable on ebay for my 2004 Rx8 and it doesnt work because you need the little box and most of the wires so the radio can know something is there I don't know wich one to buy I hear gta is good but expensive grom seems to be the most popular choice

Didn't buy the same one I posted did you?
I haven't had any issues with mine. Scroll up and look. Cake to install, and I just leave a flash drive plugged into it...never have to deal with disks again.

Yes because you have the 9.82 firmware, I bet it is formware dependant and he has the older 9.5XX firmware like me.

Thats a good price on that one I will have to try it and hopefully it works. I didnt see that it was firmware dependent in the ad. Also Doesnt say if it matters if you have BOSE or not.

My current issue is that my CD says 'CHECK CD" regardless of if I put in a mp3 cd, burned cd, or a regular cd. Nothing will play and I am not sure why. So I am looking for an adapter that will allow me to play music mainly from a SD card (this looks like it will just do flash/usb and not SD card am i right?) but I can swing a flash drive if I had to from the store.

When you said that it works, what button are you pressing to get it to play? I am worried that since my current CD situation is whack that maybe it won't play anything in that mode at all.

I was able to get my firmware check to come up last night and unfortunately I have 9.50 so basically NO adapters work at all and I am screwed and since CD's dont seem to register or play I ended up just buying a FM Bluetooth adapter to use for the car. it allows me to put in a micro SD card into the side, or bluetooth from my cell or plug my cell into the aux port on the unit.

It is pretty sad that Mazda would have a car this expensive that is so prone to breaking or not working. As it seems so many people are having CD registering issues with the stock head unit. I have had much older cars that have had no issues at all when it comes to headunits. And since mine is a BOSE uinit I cannot use an aftermarket deck without having to rewire the speakers.

Yeah I can vouch for this one too. Got it working on my Bose system V9.55

Just a heads up, the company states it'll only work with firmware versions 9.55 or later but says it won't work with v9.81 or v10.1

They also state that 2005s will need to solder a jumper or a 0-ohm chip register on location L716 in their headunit.

Overall tho I can't complain.. spent around 50CAD and my steering controls still work! Just a heads up if you're thinking of ordering this.. The AUX cable is hardwired to the little box. So make sure you buy a 3.5mm male - female adapter so that you don't wreck the only connection cable.

I wanted to get that one above since it has a USB for charging at the same time. But it will not work with the Firmware versions under 9.55 like mine which is 9.50.

I went with this unit:

The iSimple IS31 was $24 and creates a set of RCA outputs, so you just have to get any RCA to >>> whatever adapter you want. So for $2.50 I bought a RCA to 3.5mm male plug that was 6 feet long. it runs off of the antenna port and comes with a switch to swap from antenna/radio to this unit. There is no static on this and I just plug my cell phone in whenever I want since I can control the equilizer from there and it has a shuffle mode

That's a shame. The RX8's tuner is very limited in frequency response.

So you plug the aux in the back of the stock head unit? How did you get it to the stock aux setting?

From the research I think the cable I received might have the wires in the wrong pins. They have pins 7 and 13 jumped, green on 1, red on 3 and white on 5.
I just bought this same $7 one on Amazon. So basically it won't work? That's what I gather from this thread.

I think any aux cable with no electronics in the cable is not gonna work on the rx8. They just advertise it because the plug is the same.

i pull out the system and then plugged in the aux but just before i return everything i wanted to chack if its working, so i turn on the engine and the little screen of the system + time ++ airco didnt worked
the airco controler as well. bet the lighter working, the 4 emergency light working, the pull and push cd working as well.
so really i dont know what is the problem!!! i checked every plug and cable and everything is connected well.

I'd guess it's a plug fir the screen maybe you pulled a wire from inside a plug if you pulled the radio hard.

Just a side note. If you pull the vents above the radio you have much better access to the back of the radio and plus. You don't have to pull on the wires.
