I'll get the reverse lights later tonight. Too much trafic on the road for me to roll a camera stand into the street, and by camera stand i mean trash can.
Oh and i forgot the door jam, but its the same color as the other LEDs.

can't wait to see the results. I'm doing this mod soon myself... Nice wheels btw...

NgoRX8 01-18-2007 08:33 PM

nice choice on xtreme white 7440s for turn signals. i have them and love the white signals.

you just went piaa crazy

BigOLundh 01-18-2007 08:41 PM

Its actually for the Reverse Lights - this way everybody within a one mile radius is gonna see know i'm backing up. HAR HAR
I like using the stealth ambers for the turn signals, they come out to be a really dark amber color... niiiice.

after dealing with all sorts of cheaper brands on my last car, and PIAA being the only one that lasted... i've decided to stick with them. Never once have I had an issue with a PIAA bulb.

Sh*t. I'm hoping they are 194 Wedge Bulbs as well. I couldnt imagine them being any different. I won't actually know for sure until i open it up and see.
I installed a few tonight, and only have the vanity and license plate left. I'll do those tomorrow morning before i go into work.

I just learned that while these reverse lights look amazing, they make my car look even more dirty then normal. great - i guess this means it'll finally get washed this weekend :)

I'm bored so i decided to change the vanity lights tonight, and WELL EVIDENTLY, its not a 194 wedge bulb.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...h/Bulbs003.jpg

Looks to be a 30mm bulb. Sheesh.

I now have an extra pair of PIAA 194s for sale :)

-hS

BigOLundh 01-19-2007 03:08 AM

I looked online and found 31mm festoon bulbs. 31mm long is fine, but they were 10mm wide. The OEM bulb seems to be 6mm wide. I'm thinking 10mm is gonna be way too large for the housing.

I'll keep searching online to see what i can find.

-hS

danlewisnet 01-19-2007 07:55 AM

I hope you are taking before pics. =)

VarneyMazda 01-19-2007 10:26 AM

about how much did this cost you?

None of the festoone bulbs that I've looked at would work --- they're all too wide.

Yeah, I'm still searching too ...

Try sending an email to V-LED's.

You guys are talking about the lights in the sun visors right?

jsnbd3ll 01-19-2007 12:46 PM

I went the cheap route via ebay and picked up bulbs for the doors, map light and dome. All are blue led's and I like they way they look. One thing I found helpful was the sellers link to sylvania's replacement light chart (found here

My led's with shipping cost me $42 and 45 min to install. I can take pics if u are interested.

BigO doesn't play when it comes to lighting. lol

BigOLundh 01-22-2007 04:14 PM

word

btw, i emailed a few companies about our vanity lights, and the only response i got back so far was from super bright leds.com

"Sorry we do not, are smallest diameter festoon bulbs are about 9mm.

Greg"

(still searching)

danlewisnet 01-22-2007 04:37 PM

aww man - no pics yet?

Jedi54 01-22-2007 05:32 PM

isn't superbright led's the same as autolumination?

Can't wait to see these guys installed. I've literrally spent a few hundred on bulbs for my 8 but I'm always looking for more. :) Let us know how it goes

BigOLundh 01-22-2007 05:36 PM

oh i put them all in, except the vanity mirror lights of course - and will take pics soon.

I was happy with everything but the license plate light. The LED projects a really sharp beam of light - but its narrow and doesn't fully illuminate the whole plate. Oh well - its still better than the stock light.

danlewisnet 01-25-2007 02:36 PM

lol - i know - i check this thread everyday for pics.

Laserkei 01-25-2007 02:51 PM

I did the almost the same set up it will look great when its all put in.

BigOLundh 01-25-2007 11:55 PM

LOL - i'll get pics soon, but im too busy on the weekends, and like i said... my camera is not good, so i have to arrange a time with a friend here to take the pics.

We're both busy this coming weekend, but maybe available soon there after.

Frost the surface of the LED by using some very fine sandpaper. That will diffuse the light so that it is spread over a wider area and not such a sharp cutoff. Just do a little bit at a time until you're satisfied with the result.

chr1s 01-30-2007 09:07 AM

or just get these

Phantom Menace 02-07-2007 11:14 PM

damn, man...you're going to go blind--from them all them super whites. I tried the LED thing for the reverse lights. and although the light was "whiter" and more intese from the outside, from inside my car it seemed dimmer for some reason.

definatley take night pics...i'd like to see how bright them byaches are!?

oh btw, thanks for filling out my survey! ;)

THANKS man.... how close do the parking lights/fog lights match the headlights?

BigOLundh 02-08-2007 05:20 PM

The headlights are brighter because of course they are HIDs, the color is very similar tho. I tried taking a pic with my camera but it just came out as a huge blur. As soon as i get access to a good camera, i'll take some pics of it for you.

are you for real?
I do have one LED bulb left over, so i guess i can give this a try. So just get some fine sand paper and rub it over the lens? This sounds like a horrible idea.

-hS

Jedi54 02-08-2007 05:26 PM

umm, that sounds like a BAD idea. LED's are pretty fragile little guys.

Phantom Menace 02-08-2007 09:33 PM

BigO,
Keep us posted on how the LEDs standup, k? I want to replace my front missle-rocket-looking lights with LED but have heard horror stories of them melting and getting stuck. I've read it gets really hot in there?

Oh yeah, and can you post the part#'s for the bulbs you got?

:Peace:

BigOLundh 02-08-2007 10:09 PM

I think i already posted all the bulb codes on teh first page. If there is something in particular you were looking for let me know.

I definetely wouldnt recommend getting discount LEDs for your missle lights if heat is an issue. I've had my PIAAs in their almost 2 years now... with no issues.

-hS

BigOLundh 02-08-2007 10:12 PM

Oh wait, guess i never posted the part numbers - but it is in another stickied thread. Anyway... here we go again.

boanjangnararmine 03-10-2007 11:57 PM

online i found a bulb that is 8mmx28mm.. does anyone think this will work for the vanity mirror lights that are apparently 6mmx30mm?

Salamanth 03-12-2007 07:09 AM

BigO - you're probably safe to sand the LEDs, a few years back I did a project where I had to cram a few LEDs into a very small space and I actually held one on a belt sander for a few seconds to flatten out the tip :D:

Though, if you kill your LED, don't come after me with any weapons of ass destruction in hand.
