Repainting the silver strips on the middle console
Hi Everyone,
I am planing on re-painting the two silver strips that run through the middle of the car's interior this week. Mine are badly scratched from the previous ownership. I bought a used front and rear console from partsgroup's tom neel for a good price. I thought this way I can have two sets of these with me, and not worry about people ruining it, cause I just swap them over anytime and paint the other set. My concern is color and the best method to do this since I am no expert in painting. Anyone who has exprience doing this, any advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance for your help and feedback. |
i actually did this about a year ago, not too difficult to do. First get some 220 grit sandpaper to get all the silver junk off, then go over again with 320 or 400 grit. Use your palm to sand it. Then use some interior gloss spray paint that has a fan tip spray nozzle, not the traditional push button. Two good coats of that and you should be great. Mine turned out great like that and are still holding up better than the silver stuff did!
here are some pics a year later: http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t=SN850725.jpg Dirty obviously but no flaking or anything! Right after i painted (before interior swap) http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t=PIC_0139.jpg let me know if you need more of them i got a few i think... |
Thanks for the tips, I was trying to keep the same color as I like the way it makes the interior looks. Any suggestions on paint color?

Get some sunlight silver paint to match the exterior of your car. Plus, that color wouldn't be too far off the current stock silver color.
