Remote Sunroof.....help
 

Ok well I just purchased the Viper 791xv alarm and had my installer try to install the remote sunroof option similar to the window up down option. But he tried with no luck to get the module to work. He thought that he could have it auto close when you arm the alarm instead but that worked to no avail too. So I am wondering if anyone has had any luck with this or has tried and figured out that it won't work. It seems that the auto open feature (like the auto down feature on the drivers window) is built into the motor as well.......

Dude, I am having the exact same problem, my installer has the wires run up to the control box and sitting there waiting for an answer. His suggestion is to hire an electrical engineer to test the board in the box for wiring points for a pigtail to hook to. he also suggested trying to find the wiring schematics for the board so we could solder to it. I don't know, we are in a holding pattern right now on this but if you have come up with anything let me know please.

Reroute the power
 

I just ran into this, too. The installer ended up rerouting the power to the sun-roof from he ignition to the accessory part of the fuse box. It works fine! Now we're just wondering if this could cause some kind of problem. Why did Mazda wire the windows to accessory and the sun-roof to ignition? Does anyone know if there's a good reason not to power the sun-roof from accessory?

I tried to install the 530t on the sunroof this past weekend and it didn't work. Basically because the sunroof switches don't carry the current for the motor, they only act as signals for the motor. If you read the book on a 529t (same but only for one window) it specifically says that the unit must be hooked up to the lines that carry the current to the motor, otherwise it won't work. Basically what happens is the 530 doesn't see that there is a motor drawing power and shuts down, it only moves about an inch. Lurch told me in a a pm that he was going to work on doing this install this week. Check out his thread in the DIY forum.

i am as yet undecided on the exact module i am using. i may use the dei 529t, as it is less expensive, and will do exactly what i want it to (i think, i am not sure if it will do the one touch open and close ). if it doesnt do the one touch, i may use the 530t. either module will do the trick, and will wire up similarily. hopefully, if all goes well, i will have another DIY up tomorrow night, and it will probably be much longer, as i am anticipatining having to pull the headliner out.

Lurch -- you really don't have to pull the headliner out at all. With the sun visor off and the clip for it off too, you can easily slip a wire underneath. The A pillar is similar, by peeling back the seal i could easily slip it under there.

yeah, i know, but to do this "right" i have to get to the sunroof motor, gonna do some research tonight through the shop manual, and see where it is located

ok, after doing some (tedious) research, the sunroof motor is located in the front of the vehicle, right near the switches, but from the looks of things, the relays and such are built into the motor housing. this means for this to work the way i want it to, one touch open and close using the DEI module as well as control from my alarm, and for it to be safe (if something gets caught in the sunroof the motor will shut off), it seems i may need to disassemble the motor itself to get to the proper connections.

i sincerely hope this is not the case, as there will probably be a significant amount of work involved.

it is right above the switches. you can get to it and the connector for it by removing the switches. did you read my post? it might help you get started as i figured out all of the wires in the switches.

yeah, the wiring colors arent the issue. the issue is that for this to work the way i want to, i have to go right to the motor wires, and from what i understand so far, they are buries in the motor assembly. we will see

What it might take is tie in the switches normally from the 530t and use 2 diodes between those lines and the constant power line for the motor. That way the 530 will still see a draw, but power won't be able to flow the wrong way and activate both switches at the same time.

Does the fact that the sunroof doesn't work unless the key is in the 'on' position also potentially cause problems? I can't tell you how many times I've turned my car off and then had to put the key back in (and to the 'on' position) to close the sunroof.

Just wondering.

If I understand the DEI 529T or 530T modules correctly, I believe they can be connected
to a constant + power supply anywhere as long as it has enough amps to power the sunroof motor.
Perhaps someone with the knowledge can confirm or deny this...

well everyone, the wait is over. i just got home from the shop and have completed the successful installation of a DEI 530T module to my sunroof, with full auto open, auto close, and stepped opening (vent and beyond), as well as control from my viper 791xv alarm system. i am downloading the pics from my camera and getting ready to write up the DIY. please be patient. i will be posting a link here as well as in the DIY forum.

Wow that is a lot of work. But i am a bit confused. Why did you attach wires to the circuit board only to remove them in the next step?

i attached wires to the terminals first so i could then use the wire to remove the terminal from the board easier

Since I brought up the question, I want to say thanks for this write up!!! As soon as I get my car back this WILL be done!!!! Way to go on concuring something and doing a DIY!!!!!

i love doing this stuff. ive been doing car audio sales and install since 97. its in the blood. actually, i had been planning on doing since i had done my windows, just hadnt had the time or compulsion. then like 2 weeks ago my friend and coworker asked me to do the sunroof in his car (02 civic si)(which took me like 30 minutes to wire up, and like 4 hours to figure out the limit switch so his wouldnt automatically vent when the sunroof closed) and got the bug to do mine, then everyone on here was like can we do, how, what etc.
