remote start??
 

im thinking about buying a remote start control for my 8 im bugged bout how i gotta wait couple minutes for the 8 to warm up for long drives any suggestions or help on this is really helpful??

That would be cool, specially when your in a hurry and it's very cold outside, letting the car warm up before you go.

You don't really need to wait 3-5 minutes to warm your car, 30 to a minute or once your temp needle move to the first line as long as you don't go over 3000 RPM until it's normal running temp. Anyway, one guy (twiztog43) installed a VIPER 5901 which has a Remote Start feature along with all kinds of sensors, inquire with him.

id say its worth it. [because its an alarm as well. one of the best!]

i can tell if someone messes with my car at work or school, because of the 2 way remote. with the stock alarm, it just goes off, and you will never know, unless you happen to hear it. and the remote start is convenient, because i can start it right away, when i get ready to leave, and usually it would be warm enough to drive, no waiting 30 sec to a minute [on a cold day/morning.]

i even have the turbo timer set up to a minute, so for those short drives, it will get a chance to warm up. i didnt really feel like setting it up to 10 or 5 minutes. that just seems excessive.

just be careful that the shop you choose to install it does it the right way. depending on your location, legally they should have a procedure to do remote start for a Manual Trans. such as put in neutral, pull up e-brake, press brake, press remote start button in order for it to work. if it is not done correctly, it will not remote start. [if you ever leave it in gear]

also if you forget to put in the key when the car is started and you press the brake pedal, you could potentially flood your car. remember to always put the key in and turn it to the first turn, on, or you will shut the car down [safety feature by the alarm] and flood your car.

if i were you i would change out the coil, plugs, wires to make sure they are in tip top shape, so that if you were to accidentally shut off the car cold, it will lessen the chance of a flooded engine. i have shut my engine off accidentally and on purpose with a new set of OEM Coils, RB wires and spark plugs, and havent flooded so far.

Nice thanks mines an automatic is it the same if I forget to put the key in? And Also I never really knew how long I had to sit in it I would sit in it till like the 4th line and then take off so recommended remote start control? for an automatic, forget majority of what i said about the safety features. those are for a manual. in an auto, it is much easier to get the remote start going. i would recommend the Viper 5902 Remote Start + alarm.

If you have a decent phone....get the viper smart start. you cans tart you car, as long as it has signal, from your phone, anywhere in the world.

i have thought about having that as an add-on to my alarm. how do you like it? does it have any problems? the reason why i have been hesitant is because it doesn't replace the remote, just makes it more convenient than i would need it to be, plus you would still need your keys in the ignition regardless. i also still have an iphone 3g so its slow as hell and some apps lag like crazy so i wont consider this until i upgrade to a new phone sooner or later.

well that app itself is very lightweight. i love it. the only thing is if you have an automatic, were supposed to rev the engine before it shuts off, so if you turn it on, and after 15-20 min (dealer can set this accordingly) the car will shut off.

happened to me once to me twice...had some issues starting car..but that could have been of other issues.. haa. got the engine swapped out under warranty. not because of the remote start tho...

LOVE this thing. definitely has the WOW factor. starting your car from a phone.

yea for the phone one not really into it seems kinda pointless to have on ur phone and it seems laggy perfer to have a alarm remote were u dont need to put ur key in first thinkin bout the viper 5902 twiztog recommended

Does the Viper 5901 or 5902 require a key to be hidden in the car for the remote start?

yes. i have the expresskit with the valet key hidden somewhere in the dash.

it has bad reviews on amazon but take that with a grain of salt... not everyone is an expert on auto security install lol.

sorry for multi posting.. (afterthoughts) but for those with a manual who DONT want to go through the 5 step process on the "manual mode" for remote start all you need to do is have an installer do a manual neutral safety switch as this will allow you to run the remote start in the normal configuration.

that sounds like a bad idea. trust me, if someone were to forget that the car is in gear, you better hope you dont kill anyone.

the remote start sequence for the manual isnt bad at all, just pull up the ebrake, let go of the brake, open door and lock. this makes sure that your not in gear during remote start.

So with this bypass module, the hidden key isn't needed?

I have an '04 auto, so don't have to worry about manual issues.

A neutral safety switch detects if the car is in neural. if it is not the car wont start... trust me its way more convenient than the "manual mode" and its even safer as it WILL NOT let you start the car unless in neutral.

Yes with the bypass you do not need to have a key under the dashboard or anywhere else in the car for you to use a remote start.

The bypass bypasses the key Immobilizer only while the remote start operation is being utilized, it will reengauge after the remote start operation is terminated by the timer that you set or by you disengaging the system to drive off. This means the car will turn off or you have to insert your key and turn to "run" then you can drive off.

I have the 5901 installed on my car, first mod. Love it works great. Had it installed at a local best buy and has a lifetime warranty install :). I love the 2 way thing, it has a mile radius if someone trying to steal my car the remote starts to page me. I don't really use the remote start anymore, what was stated above as long as you don't rev over 3-4k you should be good.

I've had the 5901 installed on my 05 rx8 and now on my 08 rx8. Only one complaint, for somereason everyonce in a while maybe 25:1 starts the factory alarm will go off and you have to shut the car off to disarm it. I thought maybe one of my passengers was hitting the lock button from inside but its happened when its just me a few times and I never set the factory alram. I may just get the factory alram disabled all together. I have the nuteral switch so its no hassel. The shock sensor is fairly sensitive, while folding the door mirrors in it will chirp at me and the remote will say shock. The one-way remote is very touchy started the car from my pocket a few times but no problems at all with the two-way remote. The trunk pop is a simple wire tap so must installers will hook you up with that if you mention it. A feature I still need to try out but very looking forward to is the turbo timer as I am installing mine hopefully this weekend. The directions read that it is a simple combination of buttons and coordination of opening the door to set the turbo timer. I would recommend this product 100% but recommend getting the factory alarm disabled (if thats possible, I will be finding out soon if this keeps happening).

Do you have the by-pass module or hidden key?

I have the Viper alarm on my car as well, love it, never had a problem except the factory alarm going off a couple of times, but not a big issue, the only other problem is only cold days and starts, it will start, shut off and start again...twice until third time it stays on, makes me a little nervous, and the remote broke by the function button and is like 200 to get a new one, so i'm looking into the iPhone app.

^ That's not good. If it starts and shuts of right away, it could flood your engine (especially on a cold start). I am now beginning to wonder if it's worth the trouble to get one installed.

By the way, you can get Viper 5901/02 replacement remotes on ebay for like $40 or so. Also from what I hear, if you RMA the remote back to viper directly they will fix/replace.
