Rear center console cover modifications
This is mine. Btw... I modified my ski-hole panel... its a work in progress but its at a resting point for now. I'm probably gonna pick up another one and make a more complicated design. I wanted a way to have the panel up so my subs could fire into the cabin cleanly. I dont get why people ever face them the other way. Its an 8, It started as the script from the RX-8 badge but due to one cough while dremelling, its now a rounder 8, i may carve rotors from the original panel for the middle bits... not sure yet... Dremel is awesome tool by the way. Rotary tool for a Rotary car. it just makes sense.
If anyone else has some something different. POST PICS. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2002/...4481a0.jpg?v=0 http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2039/...f31765.jpg?v=0 |
Sorry......not feeling it. Looks out of place.
|
I would expect a design in that spot to be vertically symmetrical.
|
Good idea, and looks very well done, but I wouldn't do this in mine. Just not my style.
|
its nice, not my taste, but its nice
|
It's just a cutout no speakers or anything inside? =/
It looks a bit chunky. |
nvm i'm dumb:banghead:

firebirdude, explain your logic.

u mean like this? This is mine...
BTW Pblue, nice job. I like the imagination. If you still have the material that you cut out, you should use it to make the two holes for the 8. Just attach the two circles (don't do the rotor shape !!) on top of the mesh and outline it in the chrome trim to match the extirior. :biggthump |
juiceRx8, I like your vertically symmetrical design a lot. firebirdude, I think you’re just plain confused. Calling someone stupid while being wrong is the epitome of a fool.

It was supposed to be the script 8, like the badge on your trunk. I slipped while cutting it and thats what I had to end up with, and like I said, I have another panel that I'm working on for something different. I have fun making em, and everyone's taste is different.
The two vertical ones are kinda boring imho. Yes theres 2 10"s behind it, that glow blue through it, the amplifier and capacitor also glow blue, and I swapped out all the door and dome lights with matching LEDs. The mesh is much easier to see through it in person, you see the subs in the custom box behind it. Also, to appreciate it more. The car is Phantom blue with chrome accents, wheels, pipes, fender vents, etc. So it matches the exterior. As soon as i am finished ripping apart my dash to put a USB panel in there, Ill be re-working the rest of the console. If you want to go buy mazdaspeed carbon fiber pieces and glue them on, go for it. Mine will be personalized and unique. Also, people who dont like the taste... its easy to say you don't like it, but how about suggesting what you think would go better? |

Because the length of a 45hz wave is around 18' tip to tip. Therefore by firing your subs forward you are reducing your SPL as you the wave reaches your ear at a lower amplitude. Firing off the rear of the car increases the distance to your ear, and thus increases the SPL/watt.

The extra 2 feet of trunk length makes a difference in our car? Its not a boomer anyhow.
|
just turn your subs around and see if you can notice a difference.

x2 plus some becuase of the reflection... So you are talking about roughly 20-25% of the waves ideal length. One full wave is max to max. By facing forward in this car you are likely about the middle of the wave, or the QUIETEST the wave could possibly be. By turning them around you should be able to almost DOUBLE your max sound output. If you turn them around without changing anything else I can guarantee that yoru SPL rises significantly. If yoiu don't liek it that loud you can use this as a manner of reducing your distortion, by being able to use a lower gain. |
what materials did you use....for the mesh...n how.
Also...ru guys saying if i turn my subs facing the back seat they will sound louder??im not understanding. I have two tens in a custom bix that just barely fits in the upper shelf. They bump. They could always bump harder:) I bet the lights shing through look cool. Nice job:) |
I have tried it both ways. Gain is mid and facing forward I have more than enough bass for the music I listen to, Looks better, no trunk rattle, easy access to the amp and capacitor and wiring from the back should i need it. Its a matter of preference. Subs can be pretty complicated, especially if you mount multiple subs facing at angles, sound waves cancelling each other, bouncing all over the place, and its all invisible, its crazyness, the cause is obviously witches, and anyone who understands it is a witch.

As for the mesh, I got 3, one was flat stainless diamond mesh from customcargrilles.com, bit expensive, got it on sale. one was large screen door mesh from Home Depot. the one i used is actually a hinged drain gutter mesh cover. It was curved and had hinges, but you can bend it to fit and just cut it fairly easily. |
