Radio too loud..
 

I just installed a BOSS BV9560B, 340W in my 05 and its cool and what not but its too loud. When on volume 1 its just louder than id like. Is there any way of fixing this? I cant find any setting on the head unit for this.

I bet you set it to 11.

Option 1. Stop being a pansy and crank it.
2. Remove all amps, enjoy the sound of the engine.
3. Turn down the gain on the amp.

Do you hear the sustain?

Sounds like you installed an aftermarket headunit in an 8 with the BOSE system, and didn't take any precautions. You either have to do the RCA hack method or the resistor padding method. If it were me personally, I use the resistors, as many people have had induced noises with the RCA method. This thread should help you out. Towards the end.

firebirdude: I'm not sure i have the skill to install this, from the sound of that thread it involves opening the head and soldering stuff. Not my cup of tea.

What head unit are you using?

You don't open up the headunit. You uninstall it partially, yes, but you certainly don't pry the headunit open. If even that is not your cup of tea, then take it back to your installer and tell them something needs to be done. This happens on ANY vehicle with a factory amplified system. So they should have known this would have happened before even loosening one screw. They may charge you an extra few bucks, but anything more than 40 bucks is a rip. This should have been done with the original installation.

If you installed this, then it's simple. Get the resistor values noted in the post, solder them together like the picture shows, snip your current speaker wire connections, solder the resistors in line.

Well I installed this myself actually, totally pain in the a55 finding a place to hide those wires and get that headunit to fit. none the less, i checked out the forum and it isnt very specific about what it is i need to actually buy. Is it a output convertor like the one shown in the picture? If so i take it i install this by the amp? the output wires of the amp?

You can go have a bite and you'd still be hearing that.

This is the post I was referring to. So you would need eight 62 ohm and four 18 ohm resistors. All 1/4 watt. Wire up four sets of 3, as pictured in the pdf file. Then each set of 3 resistors get soldered inline the speaker wires coming out of your headunit. So front left gets a set, front right gets a set, etc.

This really isn't much more difficult than the RCA hack method that is also discussed in that thread. But several people have complained about induced noises from doing it that way. It's a common problem that I've seen on other vehicles when using the RCA hack. It will drive you mad. So spend the extra 30 minutes and just use the resistors. Make sure your connections between resistors is solid and you insulate the connections with heatshrink or at least tape before you shove everything back into the dash.

And yes, the area directly behind the radio is tight. But use a little planning and finesse. I've crammed MUCH more in that center dash area than you're trying to. Take your time and don't get frustrated. That seems to be the most common problem. People get angry and impatient, then just slap it all in there and use gorilla strength to force the headunit back far enough to clip in place. lol
