Radio LCD/LED All On Problem?
1 Attachment(s)
My RX-8's radio LCD/LED (?) started doing this occasionally:
https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=78457 I always see the "mazda RX-8" initial display, and then usually it works fine for a few seconds. Then if the problem shows up, it goes "all on" like the picture. After a while it sometimes goes back to normal. Has anyone: 1. Had this happen to your RX-8? 2. Figured out what triggers it? 3. Know how to get it fixed? My RX-8 is still under warrantee so I think I can get it fixed at the dealer. I'm a little worried that I won't be able to reproduce it at the dealer though, and it's a bit of a drive to get there. Any hints/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
Since I relocated the stock stereo, I had this problem a couple times. I replaced all the connectors and soldered/heat shrunk the connections.
Long story short, it is probably an issue with a wire between your head unit and the LCD. I wish I could be more help. Slavearm |
Thanks Slavearm!
I've been watching it a bit more, and it seems to happen more often when there is a lot of electrical load. For example, it's less likely to happen if I start the car and (1) don't have my foot on the brake, (2) have the A/C turned off, (3) don't shift into reverse right away, (4) don't have the seat warmers on, and (5) leave the headlights off. On the other hand, if I don't wait a few moments before hitting the brake, putting the transmission into reverse, while backing out using the electric power steering--then it tends to happen. So I'm wondering whether it's an early indicator of a weak battery? On the other hand, I took it to the dealer today and it stayed broken long enough for them to see the problem. They said there was a circuit board that could crack, and have ordered a new part. It should arrive in about a week. I'll be sure to post the final outcome, but it might be a couple of weeks because I've scheduled for business travel a week from Monday. |
The dealer first tried replacing the LCD display unit, but that didn't solve the problem. They ended up replacing the head unit for the problem to go away.
