Question on mounting aux input

Alright so I can't purchase and install one of the ipod integration kits because they use the same port as my factory navigation so I decided to just create an aux jack like you see on many newer cars.

I plan on putting the hole somewhere near the top left corner in the radio faceplate where the cassette player would go.

However, I am having trouble figuring out a way to mount the female end of the aux jack into the back of that faceplate so it will be able to hold up against the constant plugging in and unplugging of the cord that will connect my ipod/mp3 player to that hole.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! :)

A lot of those connectors use a threaded barrel and nut design to sandwhich the faceplate between them. Works well. Though i think I'd rethink your location.

I have been looking for threaded female mini jacks but I haven't found any yet.

Where do you think I should put the hole?

I think something like this is what you want:

(buy a couple in case one is a dud)

Thank you ARK! :)

I'd put the hole somewhere less conspicuous. That way you don't ruin the face of a very expensive factory radio and the centerpiece of the car. You also wouldn't need to remove the iPod everytime you step into the store for a quick purchase. If it was mounted in the center console, you'd just slide it closed and it's invisible to thieves. I'm also sure that's where the iPod would sit while you were driving anyway, regardless of where it was actually plugged in. Might as well run the female jack into there and keep everything hidden.

It's going to be my iPhone not my iPod so it's going to be removed everytime anyways.

The part I would be drilling a hole in would just be the plastic piece that covers the empty tape recorder space, but I see what you mean.

I believe that was a Mini Disc slot option. Don't know if a cassette tape player was ever an option in the RX8 (especially starting in 2004).

On a side note, most people don't even know what a Mini Disc is. It came and went so fast it wasn't even funny. Didn't last even half as long as the VHS/Beta war (~9 years)..... or heck.... even the Bluray/HD DVD war (~4 years!?).

Yeah it's a cassette player or mini disc slot:

Anyways, I'll experiment and see what position is the best placement to suit how I'll be using the connection. Thanks for the responses!

Ahhh it's both!
