question about hooking up a small sub
 

I have the Bose system in my 8 and, without ripping any of my dash apart, is there a line out adapter that I could hook up a small subwoofer to? I did some research on the forum but everything i searched seemed to come up with huge 1200w system builds, I am looking to hook up a small powered Infinity sub, thanks for all the help in advance!

yeah just go to your local car audio place (or best buy in worst case) and ask for a Line Output Converter - tap it into the wires going to your rear speakers and you're set...

also spend some more time reading on the forum before an install.. you have A LOT to learn.. and feel free to ask questions as long as you search first :)

Should be no problem. All the wires you need but for power are all in the trunk already, unless you have a base model without bose stereo. If that's the case, then you'll need to run a remote line from the rear cigarette socket.

Tap into the rear speakers with a quality line output converter and you'll be all set just like wikked said.

What do you think about my idea of re-doing the FAQ? I certainly don't have anything against Astral, but there's a lot of stuff that could be added/reworded on it and he doesn't seem to post much here anymore.:(

416to212, thanks for the help..im stuck between the sub you installed and the amplified Infinity Basslink II..both seem to be great solutions.

With the Basslink, you don't even need the line level converter as it has speaker level inputs. Just tap into the rear speaker wires *before* the amp, in the trunk.

:icon_no2: Bad idea. the signal from the head unit itself is not a true speaker level signal. After the bose amp is. You may be able to make it work before the amp, but your gains will need to be much higher and you wont get as much bump, or sound quality.

For a complete system upgrade, sure, tap before the bose amp, that's the way I did it. For a bass upgrade though, tap after the amp. Otherwise you'll be feeding a much different signal to your sub then your other speakers, making it sound unbalanced. The Bose amp applies an EQ curve to the signal and you want that curve to be played by your sub so it will match the rest of the bose system.

In the case of a full system upgrade, you want to be able to apply your own EQ curve, and so tapping before the bose amp is preferable.
