Quality Audio components.
 

I thought it might be nice to start a list or whatever of what ppl recomend as far as componentry goes. Like subs, amps, mids, tweats, speakers, pre-amps, cross-overs, hu's et cetera.

i kinda wanna try the new alphasonik subs personally, anyways, just put down whatever you think is quality and maybe like quality/price rates and such.

A repeat of what I just posted in the Bose spec thread....

Nine inch door speakers? Do you know of any other factory system with NINE INCH DOOR SPEAKERS??!?!
Digital Class D Amp and NEO magnets?
That is unheard of!

Of course its not going to be an SPL system - IASCA is irrelevant.
Add three kilowatts of amp and sub if you want to, but leave me out of it. (I prefer my ears NOT to bleed, thank you.)

I am amazed at the dismissive attitude towards this system - don't get me wrong (don't get me started!) I am no fan of the pathetic home Bose systems, with their plastic cased 'clock radio' speakers and overworked mid/ported 'bass unit', but this RX-8 effort seemsto be a solid effort. The amp is digital/class d and looks to have lots of heat sink, the speakers are well sized for the interior volume, and the neodymium magnets have obviously resulted from the 'gram taskforce' approach.

The 'Woofer-of-the-Month' in AutoSound and Security magazine was always close to my heart, as was the bloke who wrote it, but take it from me, unless you want to open the doors and entertain the whole beach, or stand outside while a microphone appreciates all the money you wasted, this system IS up to the challenge.





I don my silver Nomex suit and urge one & all to 'bring it on'.

(On a 'sirius' note, I have e-mailed Bose for details of the Satellite radio adapter this system will require to receive SIRIUS, the Ford/Mazda sat system. Film at eleven.)

I am not someone who puts together a system to bleed my ears, or impress others, or annoy others. I put them together for my own entertainment. And from what I've heard from every other Bose system that I've listened to so far (including the system in the new Mazda 6), they really aren't that impressive. The one thing that caught my attention when I listened to the Mazda 6 system was the relatively loud "hiss" that was present (it wasn't on the source material). It was like I was listening to an old cassette tape instead of a CD.

Although alot of people swear by them, they don't have the range that I want, and the tuning seems way off to my ears (some frequencies seem non-existent, and some seem over-emphasized).

You are absolutely right about Bose systems 'missing' a few key frequencies! That was my point about their feeble drivers.
All the same I have rarely seen a spec sheet that inspired so much confidence in me....and face it we are all just guessing.
I have seen many IASCA entries with less on their list. I guess the real difference has got to be those nine inch door speakers(!) Not six-by-nines, real nines. I haven't run into these before, but the size implies serious attention to precisely the frequencies Bose is worst at - 200 hz on down. Then the neo magnet material suggests that they have some serious magnets, without the huge weight penalties....again until it is here I am just guessing/hoping/praying, but fingers are firmly crossed, and I expect that the system as a whole will meet the expectations!

I got to try out my choice of music on the Bose system in the RX-8, and it seemed reasonable, much better than the high end factory systems that are put into many cars. But, I was not floored by it by any means.

There was enough bass to go around. And much was from the front doors, as felt by my legs when it was cranked. I didn't bother going above my practical listening range, but I didn't see any clipping in what I normally would ever want to listen to (pretty loud, but not ear ringing).

The main thing that I didn't like, the seperation wasn't that astounding, and it just was not quite as full as my home speakers. But, for most intents and purposes, I'd say that it sounded really good.

Now, with road use, who knows. I didn't get to take a test drive, so that is left to someone else to answer.
