Problem Sirius install

Well, I bought the plug and play Sirius kit from the dealer. Since it is an easy plug and play install, I took it to what I thouglht was a knowledgable installer working for Circuit City. He installed the kit, but when he went to test it, the radio would not turn on. I mean no power or signal. After checking his work, he did not see aniything wrong. He unpluged the Sirius connection from the back of the radio and it did come on, but volume would not adjust up or down and radio would not turn off until motor shut off. Also, the temperatiure, time, and station readout is blank. The air fan works, but no air conditioning - no cold air. Tomorrow it goes to the dealer to find out what is wrong.

Any ideas what might have happened. I think he may have shorted out something. He suggested a bad Sirius kit. At this point the management of the Circuit City is being cooperative.

The dealer sold me the kit part number 0000-81-G01A. The car is 07 Grand Touring, manual trans, with the Sat ready Bose.

Any knowledgable responses appreciated.

Always disconnect the battery. Sounds like a short to me. I hope the management stays cooperative.

This has happened with alot of people installing different things, usually it's auxmod.. The "solutions" range from being a short - to loose wires, old firmware version (not in your case) - to the face of the radio being slightly disconnected from the rest of it..

Do some searching around with words like "radio won't turn on" and things like that.. you should find a little bit of info, but looks like you will PROBABLY be getting a new HU from circuit city's pocket. you should tell them to pay you the cash the new radio would cost and use it on a corksport kit, put in a new Pioneer HU with sirius built in.. then you'll be rocking =)

WikkedOne was pretty close. The face plate was damaged by the installer. Also, several dash panels damaged. Total damage in $800 range before labor. Circuit City is handling it well. They will pay to fix it and refunded one half of the install fee (Sirius system was installed). Worse part is everything is special order, so I will have to drive for at least 4 or 5 days with no sound or air conditioning in 100 degree weather.

Face plate is $475 because circuit board controlling multiple functions integrated into it.

Wow - how did they manage to damage the dash panels? can you get some pics? - and like i said earlier you should get the cash to purchase the HU yourself and use it on a Corkport kit (ironicly they cost about 475)

I'm glad CC is taking care of it for you! That could be a REAL mess...

WikkedOne - Just noticed you are a Vet. Hope the VA is taking good care of you. I am a 100% service connected disabled vet from Vietnam (1st Infantry Division).

If you are having any problems with the VA, let me know. I have been dealing with them for over 35 years. If you haven't already, join the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). They keep you informed about veteran issues and also will actively help you if you are having a problem with the VA.

The DAV also has a deal with Ford, which includes Mazda and all Ford owned companies, where you can buy cars and trucks under what they call the X-plan. I saved about $3000 on my RX8 purchase and about $6000 on the purchase of an F350 Diesel.

Woot, I am a Vet too. My pops is retired Marine Corps and my mom works for the VA as well.

Good thing Circuit City is taking care of things. I bet that dude get fired.
