Pre-paid toll pass in headliner

Here in Florida we have a little something called a "Sun Pass". Basically an E-pass that contains a pre-paid balance so you can drive right through tolls booths. I'm sure other states have something similar...

Well, it's an ugly white box stuck on my windshield. I want to dissembled it, get it down to the smallest amount of components necessary for operation, then sneak it right up and into my headliner. Hoping that the toll booth will still be able to read it through the thin metal of my roof. The pass makes an audible sound if connection was made, so I don't need to see anything. I don't care if I ruin my sun pass, as I'll just buy another and transfer the balance over. Anyone done anything like this before? Any tips?:uhh:

I'll post up pics if I'm successful ....

You could paint it black, you will hardly notice it.

First I would also test that if there is some dependency on the angle of windshield glass. Try putting it in your sunroof or holding it near your roof and see if it still works. Not worth ripping it apart if it isn't going to work anyway.

I just keep mine in the storage area behind the passenger seat. Pull it out when I am at the toll and just hold it up to the windshield and fly by. Half the damn tolls you still have to slow to 15mph so it isn't like you don't have time to grab it.

Hiding it would be cool, but its nice to be able to use it for different cars if I'm not going to be travelling in mine.

I put mine in the glove box and it registers fine whenever I pass a toll

got a sunroof?
we have ez pass here in delalware, and i have mine tucked up on the little slider in the roofliner. the "velcro" keeps it in place, and it is out of sight

Thanks laythor. Exactly what I was looking for. I'll read it when I have time.

And when a toll booth is every 5-10 minutes, I'm not pulling it out over and over again. Also, I blow through them at 50+ without issues. And lurch, you mean on the topside of the sliding sunroof cover? There's no way it would slide back then?!? No?

yup, right on the cover. works fine, the cover doesnt slide all the way back
