Portable Navigation
I'm looking into buying a portable GPS for in my car but I have no idea what the hell I'm looking at.
Anyone have a navigation system that can tell me anything about them? Or anyone have one they'd recommend? I'm not looking to spend more than 500$ because I just bought a new digital camera, too. P.s. If this is a huge repost- too bad, I searched. |

Also, you might try the GPSPassion forums (http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/default.asp?group=2) for lots of good info. |
Thanks! I was actually looking at the Garmin 350. I thought it looked good but how am I supposed to know :) Thanks a bunch!

I know two people with the Garmin StreetPilot c300 series (330, I think). They are all extremely easy to use.
However, I haven't tried one in an RX-8; the mounting suction cup goes on the windshield and is the only downside I can see. |

Thanks for all your input! |
Garmin makes great products. You can get the c330 at Best Buy,CompUSA etc. should run around $450

Anything by Garmin is great. I personally bought the Alpine Blackbird for myself and love it.
And the C330 is available for $350, the C340 (which calls out street names) is $450 now. |

Thanks for all your input! Hahaha, I have this same problem. Being a dude/guy I'm just like "i'll just do the "to" directions in reverse...how hard can it be? Oh wait." Then again, Nav systems arent fool proof either. Just ask Kel and Chrism |

Awesome- thanks guys!
And TomAssBender- I'm a girl and I still have a horrible sense of direction! I try to just reverse the directions myself too... that has definitely gotten me into a pickle before :) |
I have a Mio 310x. It is awesome and way cheaper than the Garmin. You can get it for $200 pretty easily, and it has more features than Garmin. Playing around with them in the store it made the Garmin look very barebones. Garmin supposedly has the best maps though, I know the maps that came in the Mio are a little outdated but they have upgraded them in the newer units (still probably lagging behind Garmin). I couldn't justify the extra cost so I went Mio. No regrets. It's worth at least looking into as an option.
Also, you can hack the Mio and add new skins and video player software. Some people have loaded the TomTom GPS software on it. You can even play SNES games with an emulator http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/t...TOPIC_ID=76199 |
