PIE Functions... Installation?

My girlfriend has an RX-8 and she got the roady2 with wireless fm modulator... and the sound quality is terrible. Ive been hearing things about a PIE connector that can be used to achieve a direct connection.

What else will i need to connect my Roady2 to the PIE connector? Do i need the universal xm tuner thing. The square black thing for 50 bucks? I saw a post that had that. Is there any way to run RCAs straight from your Roady2 into the Pie Connector? Thatd be cool and save me 50 bucks

The Roady2 has no RCA out as I recall. You could get the XM control unit which has RCA out, how will the Roady2 interface with the control unit? Or you could use the 1.8" stereo headphone jack on the Roady2 to RCA out with a cable of this type from Radio Shack. This would save you the $50 for the control unit, you just need a headphone to RCA out cable and the PIE setup. You need the PIE unit itself and the PIE cable from rx8garage.net.

Dont forget about the firmware issue too... you need firmware 9.55 or greater. Reason why I don't have the PIE.

If you want a quick solution, DO NOT use the wireless FM modulator. Get the Delphi XM FM Direct Accessory. It connects to the radio antenna and still uses the wireless FM mod but I think it blocks out the FM radio a but more. It is $30 at Best Buy and it helped out the sound a bit. It sounds better... probably not as good as the PIE but it is an improvement.
