As far as I know, the "piano black" of the head unit consists of cast and polished pieces of plastic. You might be able to closely match it with (jet black) paint on other smooth surfaces but be prepared for a lot of work, including appropriate preparation, primers specific to the material, and careful techniques which will likely require some amount of intermediate sanding between coats and hand-polishing of the final surface. Powder-coating is one option that might work for metal parts. I have a powder-coated aluminum shift knob whose surface is quite smooth and glossy. I don't know if it's an option for plastic or composite materials, as it involves baking the part. There are lots of folks on here that know a lot more than I do, so maybe they'll chime in now that I exhibited my lack of knowledge ;)
