Overhead DVD screen

For those 8 owners without the DVD Navi screen.......

Has anyone installed or tried to install an overhead monitor (one of those flip-down ones)?

My primary usage would be just for movies.

I was thinking about storing the dvd player under the seat or something like that because I already have the passthrough taken up by my custom sub box and my amp taking up that space at the bottom of the trunk.

I'd like to hear some feedback on this. I don't want to mess with my dash/HU.

I have seen a pic of one on this site. I did a quick search, but haven't found it yet. I think devoid has monitors in his overhead for the back seat. Don't forget about the sunvisor monitors.
Found it. Read this: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/lcd-mounting-48593/

just thought of something...

i wonder...

for those 8 owners who would like backseat entertainment (not THAT kind.... :o: but for dvd, ps2, etc)... :wiggle: has anybody ever tried installing a screen along the center console in place of those rear cupholders and then possibly putting the dvd player or whatnot in the rear storage compartment (not the passthrough).

not sure if this is an idea that anybody has ever considered.

I have a sunroof so there is no room for it, unless i ditched my center console controls.

That's actually what I was thinking about originally. I want to put up a DVD player in the middle so my kids can watch videos in the back. I will try something out before I go with the in dash DVD player....

They have stand alone DVD players/screens that have an elastic back to them. They just wrap around the headrest of the front seats. Sure it doesn't look perfect, but it's only for your kids to watch while they're back there. When they get out, slide them off the headrests and unplug them from the rear cig lighter. Cheap. Effective. And back to stock in seconds.

Another option is simply buying a portable DVD player. They run off a battery, but include a cig lighter plug. Super easy with the RX8's rear cig lighter. Have it sit on the center console so they can both see. When they get out of the car, the player goes with them. Again, cheap and effective.

Kids better be happy they have anything at all back there....this isn't mom's minivan we're driving....

I'd just hate to see you hack up and ghetto-fy your 8 for something like this. It's all too easy with these products. I pulled up next to some hoop ride couple days ago with three overhead monitors mounted side by side. All different sizes. The real kicker.... nobody was even riding in the back seat. LOL

I don't want to strap the DVD to the headrest if possible. my kid's going to fight on where to sit. :p

I have a DVD player that has the same mounting hole as most cameras. I am getting a flexable tripod to test it out and possibly ask my mechnical friend to build me a proper mount to sit in the center console later.

my wife gave me "go ahead" for in dsh navi+dvd player. but i think it might be too far and yet a bit expensive to do.

decisions.... :banghead:
