OmniFi install - Power question
 

I'm getting ready for my OmniFi system to be delivered this afternoon. I have the Head Unit out and I'm lost as to where to grab power from.

I was just going to tap into an empty fuse slot but this system works with an 80211 antenna to grab mp3s from my PC. It would need a constant power line for it to work without having to wait in the driveway with the car on for it to update. Any knowledge on where to get that from?

Also I am using an Audiovox FMM100 modulator as an input. Can I just pull off the stereo power to feed this?

Any help would be appreciated. This forum has already saved me a ton of time and hassle with taking out the head unit and installing my shock sensor. You guys rock.

There are a couple of fuses that are always on. When I was installing my V1, I found at least one, but I don't remember which one it was. Below the A/C fuse...

I hope you have some remote shutdown / power cut off, otherwise, you might end up with a dead battery.

I've got it all just about set.

I took the constant power from the blue/red line going into the back of the head unit's main connector. I grabbed the ignition switch power from the AUX fuse slot. Odd, but I couldn't find any switched power behind the HU.

The AudioVox modulator seems like it will be sufficient. I'm still working with the OmniFi software to actually get tunes playing, but I did power everything up and the white noise from the mod wasn't audible until I turned it up to a vol. of 28-29. That should be drowned out wiht music playing over it at that level. For the price I can deal with that until an AUX in is available.

I'll post again on how everything actually performs when I get the Hard Drive updated and it's all functional. Fingers crossed on this one.

@robertdot. I checked out the power drain issue in the OmniFi manual. They say it's not an issue and if you leave the car for an extended period the software recognizes and shuts down.

I finished up the install today. No complaints about the OmniFi, this thing is great. I was upset that my drive to work went so quick. I'm looking forward to taking the long way home. The install is fairly simple. Aside from trying to find the right power lines, I'm a novice at stereo installs, it was all pretty straight foward.

I would definitely reccomend this product. The software it comes with is lacking, ie the PC jukebox, but I use media player anyway so it's only purpose for me is gathering and transfering music and it does that fine.

The AudioVox modulator is far, very far, from perfect. But, from the horror stories I've read about modulators, it turned out better than my fears had me expecting. It will do for now as a low cost, $20 on ebay, temp solution while I wait for an Aux In. If you HAVE to go with a modulator as a solution I would reccomend this product as well. It's a bit muddy, so I have to adjust bass and treble every time I switch back and forth but the adjustment seems to compensate. There is also a noticable white noise at higher levels, most tunes drown this out though so it's only noticable between tracks.

My wireless router on the home network is throwing a fit so I haven't been able to test out the wifi data transfer yet. From what I've read in the manual and on the omnifi forums, it seems like there shouldn't be any problems there either once I get things going on my end.

You can tap the Omnifi using the PIE MAZ/PC-ALP module, this way you can get the a clear signal. The module is only like $70 and the RCA plug is $12. I really wanted to do the Omnifi but it's too complicated for my girl to comprehend. Oh yeah you must have a 9.55 or above firmware on the Headunit. Press and hold the TEXT and 1 button simultaneously.
