ok i got the jl amp now i have issues amp issues help????
 

ok, i finally got the 500/1 which i love.... if anyone read my old threads on this.. i had a dei 1100d.. well when i turned the volume past say 23 it would clip out... now with my new amp its clipping at 18.. does anyone know what i can do to stop this clipping or atleast let me increase the volume more beofr clipping... i am using a loc.. ( what my other options??) and when i hooked it up to my speaker wire i tied the pos together and the neg... and i think i connected it after the amp.. maybe that could be a prob??? anyways... i need some help..

try adjusting your cross over settings on the jl. that jl requires a hugh amount of power. as you may read elsewhere on this board, the 8 doesn't have much electrical capacity to begin with. most likely you will need to raise your lower cut off freq. you shouldn't notice much difference in sound, but it will require way less power to produce notes you probably don't hear anyway. you will make up for it by being able to play it louder.

try lowering the gain.

Ground the amp PROPERLY as the grounding sticky indicates. Next get rid of the basic LOC and get a advanced LOC like the Audio Control 6XS (for Bose) or LC6 + bass remote (for non Bose). These devices act as much more than a LOC, they allow gain control on the output sections, a line driver, noise gates and much more.

By clipping out, I assume you mean it is cutting out. Not really clipping. They are two different things. If it is cutting out, Perform these steps.

1. Disconnect the speaker wires from the amp.
2. Measure the resistance with a DMM at the speaker wires
3. If it less than 3ohms, then that's your problem.
4. Measure the voltage at the amp while the volume is turned up if it goes less than say 11v. That's your problem.
5. Watch the amp while it is clipping and try to see which led illuminates.

What size power wire are you running?
