Does anyone know the dimensions on the head unit for the 8. I want to put in a flip out dvd player in the dash but on this forum already people said u cant take the head unit out? Are you positive.

It is not impossible, but it would take a hell of a lot of custom fabrication because the head unit is integrated into the center stack, so it is not your standard DIN radio.

Here is a pic to give you a better idea about what I am talking about.

yeabh, but behind that big circle there should just be two DIN slots, otherwise theywould have to create a completely diff electronics accpetance device, whatever that is called, and then make electronics and configurations for that. That would take a lot of money and time and would make the car not only cost a lot more, but make a lot less sense in the long run as well.

Behind the circle there are 2 DIN slots, if you remove that circle you will see them but then youd have to get a lot of custom fab done to keep the circular shape and accomadate the new units face. It can be done, for a price.

Ok, time to commit sacrilege (sp?) I, for one, would not be broken-hearted to lose that circle thing on the center stack. Of all the cool RX-8 styling features, I think this one is pretty goofy. With two DINs hiding behind there, you could do a lot of awesome customization of audio/video/nav stuff if you are willing to abandon that circle styling thingie. You would have to make the faceplate visually "flow" down to the environmental controls below which wouldn't be too hard for a custom shop. Anyone here besides me think it would ok to say bye-bye to that circle design on the stereo?
