Check out the new Subs!

well after a while of thinking and planning I finally decided my next project would be to put in the subs. So I took some money out the bank and decided to take action. I found myself at the store buying up a bunch of subs and amps and wires. then later at home depot buying the board, glue, screws, and carpet.

After hours of hard work me and my friend have decided to call it a night and finish the rest tomorrow mornin heres what we finished tonight and as you can see theres still work to do tomorrow: Carpet the board, bracket the back, build the amp rack, wire everything, and turn it on!

Comments please?

and btw those are 2 10's and 2 12's. in the pics they look somewhat the same size.

WOW, thats gonna be a LOT of boom. far too much for my taste, but NICE nonetheless. cant wait to see finished pics

1145climber 03-07-2007 06:01 AM

thats gonna be CRAZY... i dont know if this is even remotely possible, but watch there be so much bass that your airbag deploys... hahaha

Steakboy42 03-07-2007 08:09 AM

This might be a dumb question, but where are the boxes? Or do you have the subs just mounted on the MDF using the closed trunk as a box?

-Steakboy

YayAreaBruh21 03-07-2007 12:56 PM

Closed trunk is the box. You had it right.

Lol les hope not. Waiting for my friends lazy self to get up then we're going to finish. Final pics hopefully along with a sound clip/video will be up tonight.

Ummm, stop right now. Go back to square one, do not pass go, matter of fact stop in jail and sit there for awhile. A sub placed as what you are trying to do is called a infinite baffle. To make a infinite baffle work, the front of the sub must be 100% sealed off from the back of the sub. You have not done this at all. What will happen is that these subs are going to flap around in the breeze like a wet fart. No control, no good sound. These subs are primarily designed for a sealed or ported enclosure. You are on a path to destruction here, stop while you can and save the investment you have already made.

Kel Rx8 03-07-2007 10:44 PM

thats nutty

YayAreaBruh21 03-07-2007 11:08 PM

Sorry mr. forbidden but they are working and are working quitewell. all the diplomas on the wall are actually falling off from the bass in the subs. That was 80% as i said we had work to do and its going fine, maybe 30 more minutes on it?

-Patrick

YayAreaBruh21 03-08-2007 01:33 AM

as i promised..

as you can see i need to polish the amp and vacuum the carpet but you get the general idea. tomorrow jus going to tune the amp and it should be good to go! was with my buddy in the garage finishing up and my dad comes outside thinkin we got hit by another quake!!! lol pretty funny stuff wen it happened. haha

comments please. open to criticism!

im also thinkin bout placing 2 8's or 2 more 10's someplace.. i want more boom boom.

ChaseRX8 03-08-2007 11:11 AM

just wondering if they sound is distorted at all? i have heard that mixing sub sizes isnt a good idea? unless do you have the 10's on one amp and the 12's on a separate channel?

Thack 03-08-2007 11:16 AM

Long as you like it... its aight i guess. May want 2 look at fiberglassing a box to give it a better sound and kinda keep the look that I think your going for. You got some highs for all the bass?

forbidden 03-08-2007 12:42 PM

If you put a new tire on the car and don't tighten the wheel nuts, it's still on the car isn't it so the car will drive just fine. To me as a pro. that is what you are telling me. There is a difference between what you have done and doing it properly. Do it properly and the results will blow what you have out of the water. Keep it your way, fine with me, go shopping for new subs right away.

Steakboy42 03-08-2007 02:00 PM

Listen to Forbidden man. It may look nice, but you'll be wrecking subs in no time.

-Steakboy

YayAreaBruh21 03-08-2007 02:13 PM

ok so what should i do if this is so wrong? completely seal the front of the subs? how much air space should i put in front of the sub?

Jedi54 03-08-2007 02:16 PM

Danger Will Robinson! (haha, always wanted to say that)
Forbidden is right... they're not going to function properly and you're in danger of damaging those subs.

I usually love stereo setups but I don't even like the looks of yours at all. Sorry. :(

forbidden 03-08-2007 04:15 PM

Like I said, start from scratch. First start off by losing 2 of the subs. 2 subs in the proper box will beat the snot out of 4 in the wrong box. You need to make the proper ported or sealed box for two of those subs. Do that and the bass response is going to come alive. I am not a chrome hater, it is not a line that I personally will recommend but it is what you have, the trick now is to make it work to the best of it's abilities. Not that I want to send you to another site, but with the amount of learning you have to do, I encourage you to head over to my main forum of www.the12volt.com and either post or start reading. You will find far more responses to your issues with equipment and install of it. This site has some very good 12volt industry people on it at the same time, however, we are not here near as often due to the nature of running our businesses.

Thank you forbidden, I couldnt agree with you more... we cant all be good at everything so some time its good to ask for advice in fields that you dont know much about. Besides the questionable equiptment I would def. agree with losing two of the subs, building a real box and puting some time and thought into you system.

YayAreaBruh21 03-09-2007 12:23 AM

well thanks for those who helped and we finally did it right, ill post pics up soon. what we did now was put the 2 12's in their own box and boxed the 2 10's as well. kept the amp rack in its place but anyways ill post the pics soon..

special thanks to forbidden for helpin out. for those who go to the bay area meets youll see it all tomorrow.

YayAreaBruh21 03-09-2007 01:04 AM

all subs are closed off and its hitting like a monster.. 2 10's and 2 12's. 10's have their own amp and so do the 12's.

feedback please.

YayAreaBruh21 03-09-2007 01:05 AM

take some more in the daytime tomorrow.. enjoy these ones!

myriadshalaks 03-09-2007 01:11 AM

isn't it bad to have that big magnet so close to the front end of the other speakers? i'm no car audio expert, but i know that when i left a set of 6*9s back end exposed next to my home speakers, they messed stuff up. buzzzzzzzzzzzzz

AmKorp 03-09-2007 01:24 AM

does your trunk rattle?

marvin_rock 03-09-2007 01:43 AM

You can't hide money :X

YayAreaBruh21 03-09-2007 03:36 AM

No there isnt a trunk rattle at all.

and this didn't take alot of money at all. Ill break it down real quick.

I bought the MDF for $25
the screws for $6
wood glue $4
Carpet $13
Spray on Adhesive $5 (used 2 cans)

Thats all it took to build everything. the cost on the actual parts were:

$70 for the 2 10's
$100 for the amp (got a good deal, was brand new too)
$70 for the cap
$60 for all the wiring

I already owned one amp and the 12's but it took me sometime to track down the same amp i had and the same flame series subs.

was about $350 for everything. and im happy with it.
