New Nav DVD

I just called NavTech, who informed me that the next DVD (update) for the RX-8 Navigation System is tentatively scheduled to be released at the end of this month.

NavTech says they'll be about $200. and can be purchased directly from them. Does anyone know if we are entitled to a discount through Mazda, or . . . ?

Is there really a huge difference between last years & this years? Doesnt seem like there would be enough growth or construction updating in 1 year to really make it worthwhile.

Zaku-8 10-14-2004 10:30 AM

last years i think is actually 2 years old

carpediem 10-14-2004 10:47 AM

I was told by a dealer that a software update disc is available for $60.

dleary 10-14-2004 08:48 PM

I certainly hope your dealer was right, Carpediem.

Navteq has said they would have an update by the end of the month for the last 5 months.... dont hold your breath...

thew 10-14-2004 10:00 PM

and they also said only they will release the software and that its not a mazda thing at all.
We all got the first disk as part of the car but Mazda does not really support the nav system.. they just repace it..

this is getting rediculous, i dont think we will ever get the map updates.

Jedi54 11-22-2004 10:40 PM

ASSUMING that the new disc does come out at the end of the month....

If someone buys an RX in a month or two, will the new disc be included?!

Inquiring minds would like to know....

dishonest like telling us an update is coming out 9 months ago, and then telling us it comes out next month every month and is still going?

Jedi54...we'll use the force on their dumbasses, or atleast rip them off :)

Helmano 11-24-2004 02:24 PM

truemagellen, i like the way your thinking...

snap-on 11-24-2004 02:30 PM

When I called them I got the "It will be out around the first of the year"

I hear they update every 30 months?

rled 11-24-2004 06:31 PM

Wish I could convert my Nav to a DVD Player! I would use it far more....

RX8FOREAL 11-24-2004 08:07 PM

They told me the new DVD would not be out until February and that Panasonic was the hold up

you can, well sort of, talk to thew at rx8garage.net about the unit and use my DIY

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-s-video-into-nav-av-electronic-video-switcher-install-44095/

I'll be adding an Xbox into Nav DIY to supplement the current one :)

march '05

I just got off the phone and the lady with an attitude probably because everyone else calls up complaining about their delay and she told me they expect a March '05 release. She put the blame in panasonic and mazda. Said the CD is in final testing stages and that they had a problem with the compilation of the CD.

I forgot to ask how much it'll be.

djseto 01-18-2005 05:06 PM

has anyone called or emailed Mazda of North America about these issues?

mysql101 01-18-2005 05:22 PM

Around April or May 2004 when I called, Navitech said they'd be coming out with it "shortly"

PS: My computer burns dual layer dvds :)

dicknick 01-24-2005 05:01 PM

What kind of DVD burner do you have?

mysql101 01-24-2005 05:07 PM

NEC ND-3500AG 16x speed DVD Dual Layer Dual Format burner

It was pretty cheap - got it from ecollegepc.com

tomshardware did a dvd shootout and the NEC came out on top. I've burned a number of DVD and CD-R disks without any issues at max burn speeds. Dual layer DVD-Rs are still too expensive to bother with

truemagellen 01-24-2005 05:20 PM

unfortunately these NAV discs were pressed with data burned 'in reverse' instead of burned from the center out and reading center out it was burnt with use for reading from out into the center

also if I remember it was recorded and played back CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) where your dvd burners are variable.

BUT BUT BUT...I still think there is a way to get the data off...and most likely it is taking out the nav dvd unit, opening it up and hooking it up to a PC since the DVD nav drive CAN read center out burned discs as well (based on the specs of it compared to its DVD playing cousin :) :))
