Again here it is: https://i113.photobucket.com/albums/...M-Nav-Tray.jpg |
Ok, Im a bit confuse now.
I want NaV for my 8, its shinka so thats not an option. The new one ^^^^^ looks really nice, saw it a while ago when Japan8 first posted it. and I really love it. is it like, if I buy ^^^^^ I can use some aftermarket headunits say Pionner Nav ? w/o mess up the A/C and factory HU ? Im really confused now. |
What exactly can be fitted using this unit? A 1-DIN piece?
|
This is NOT for aftermarket HEADUNITS. This is for aftermarket NAVIGATION SYSTEMS. Yes there is a difference... a headunit includes radio, CD/DVD and may also include navigation, and are built to 1DIN or 2DIN size specs. A pure navigation system does only that... navigation... like Magellen, Garmin and others. In Japan Mitsubishi, Pioneer, Alpine, etc. offer a nav only system that consists of a car stereo size (1DIN) "CPU" and a 6.5" or 7" screen. This dash panel is for mounting that screen. In Japan, these aftermarket navigation systems are offered as a dealer-installed option and this dash panel is Mazda's better looking replacement for the old "nav tray".
What does this mean to you? It means that you now have a clean way to mount a 7" touchscreen in your dash. This is useful if you intend to build a CarPC which can give you navigation, GB's of Mp3, DVD, DiVX, and more. If you don't want to/don't plan to do a CarPC... well... I don't think that the navigation only systems are available in the US market from Alpine, Pioneer, etc. so you might just be S.O.L. One of these MIGHT work though... http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...odel=NVE-N872A and http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...odel=TME-M770S http://www.crutchfield.com/S-6mJ1efy...50&I=150SP7200 |
Add me to the list of "I want that"
|
So basically, if I want to mount a retractable 7" touchscreen which has a 1DIN housing, this should be then possible with this panel?
My car PC's CPU would be located somewhere else - all I'm looking for is a way to mount a screen (something similar like this). |

My car PC's CPU would be located somewhere else - all I'm looking for is a way to mount a screen (something similar like this). But I imagine it could be modified for a hidden 1-din but don't take my word on it and the angle may be way off. -Jason Mazdaparts.com |
Thanks Jason - actually, it would be great to get this clarified, along with what size screens is the unit compatible with.
I'm not too hung up on the screen being motorized, if this unit has slides. It might even be better because it's cheaper to buy just the screen. |
Well based on the pictures of the Nav units for an option in Japan it is simply a screen and then a DVD unit that is off to the side. So I am almost certain the slide is built in and then a screen is added. Based on the catolog it is for 7 inch widscreen screens but I Japan8 or some other Japanese reader would have to clarify.

so does that mean, in order for me to have *nice* nav I will need :
This New Updated Dash Piece ANY Aftermarket NAV only system with a standalone 7" screen. IS that correct ? |
Yes but don't order a screen yet until I have exact specs on it incase it can fit more or less screen width.
So this can be used with: a) after market head unit screen b) carpc screen c) video screen: tv/video game/dvd player d) Aftermarket Nav system with external screen. Any other ideas? Slide out picture frame? Slide out etcha sketch? ;) |
I wonder if the Pioneer AVID D2 will fit.
Theres a special going on, pretty sick deal actually, check it out http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...817031,00.html SAd thing is the D2 cant play regular DVDs ... I wonder is there a hack or firmware somewhere will do the trick .... |

I would higly suggest you to go for the magellan solution (retractile.. ecc.) you will save money on screen and you have a better solution "invisible" when closed), i cannot buy it anymore, cause i've already ordered this one.... my opinion. PS: note you will have no hole for center speaker (bose system), and it seems there's none on that "magellan" dash... i'll prolly "cut" (phisically) that dash and re-use the black part of the original dash... or just cover the hole with the appropriate audio covering. |
if i can (and it does sound like i can) use this for a carputer project, then definetly sight me up.
also does this cover up the bose speaker? wouldnt be a big deal but would be a bonus if it didnt. also im interested:lol: |

Oh... by the way... you may want to look into this solution for the Mazda3 and Mazda6. I am almost positive I saw a pic of a similar dash panel in the MS3 or facelift Mazda3...

yep...
Mazda3 http://www.mazda.co.jp/customize/web...ela/axela.html (page 9) Mazda6 http://www.mazda.co.jp/customize/web...za/atenza.html (page 13) There have other interesting interior items like 3 gage dash panel (similar to the RX-8 one) and spoiler options like the lip spoiler from the MS6... |
I hate US ! Thoes NAV in Japan are like 10000000000 times ahead of us.
I really wonder how we gonna hook them up, lets say we can find some screen that would fit, isnt the process gonna be long ? Cuz I remember that someone installed the Factory NAV system to his 8, and it required him to take out almost every thing in the car (rear seats, etc) |
