New console panel head unit
So wtf? when and where are the replacement consoles coming out so I can get rid of that crappy Blose head unit and put in an alpine dvd lcd unit?
|
Yeah, when is this going to become a real possibility for most of us out here? I have seen two different replacements for the dash... but havent heard from anyone yet that has replaced their factory stereo and got it to work. If there is anyone out there...tell us how, how much and show us some pics.... Im about to die with my stock headunit....

Noting so far, but you can be sure, they aren't far away.

RMagic has one in their RX8...wish they would release it to the public.

Actually, Japan8 is working on getting some of the units that allow you to put a 1-din sized unit above the digital display. But I think the group buy on it just closed, and it's ex-pen-sive, like $500. Check this thread for info. If you PM Japan8 today, you might still be able to get in on it.

I'm waiting for eXentric to post my newest pics of my version of that panel. Mine uses the rotor emblem from the seatbacks as the new center speaker grille!
No I am not making them for everyone! |
Don't give a "price"...because you aren't selling anything, however, rotarygod, what is your ballpark on this kind of custom work? $300-500? $400-600? The Rmagic unit isn't cheap, neither is a locally made custom piece either.

Officially my group buy is closed, but if there are any stragglers or whatever. I am willing to take you guys in if you PM me... before I place the order.

I actually like the look of the panel that Japan 8 is offering and wouldnt mind paying around that level for it, HOWEVER I have a problem paying that much then having to pay out the @ss for custom electrical work just to get the new aftermarket stereo to work after paying around $500 dollars just for the panel to put it in... I mean its great we now are seeing some panels to fit a 1 din unit in the car but will I have to then pay a million dollars to have a custom job done just to get the aftermarket stereo to work? Would it not cost an arm and a leg to get the aftermarket stereo to work in the car even with this new panel?

Not necessarily. If you have the Bose system... weeeell I don't know. But even if you do or don't... you want better speakers anyway, don't you? How much you spend on it all is up to you. You can buy component sets for the front for ~$200. The rear can be the same or 6x9. Then just toss in a small sub... a ported 8" in the pass through or 2 6" in the pass through. This all doesn't need so much power to push it all, so that amps won't kill you either.
The actual wiring of the new HU is pretty straight forward... all you have to do is find yourself the power and ground leads (can't take them from the stock HU if you want the LED display to work it seems) and then pick up the stock speaker line from the stock HU is you have the base stereo. For Bose... I am not sure if you can just hook an aftermarket HU directly up to the amps/speakers. Those who have spent some time with this system would be the best people to ask... |
Thanks for the info Japan8
