Navi tray(Japanese dealer option)

In Japan, dealership provide "NAVIGATION TRAY" for aftermacket navi system display. Per Mazda Home Page, this tray can contain up to 197mm wide display.

F151V6535 8,500 yen.
You need cut your dashboard to install this. I asked my dealer the installation.

From backside.

Looks great! I wonder if this is or will be an option here in the states...

cueball 10-25-2003 11:04 AM

Is the screen fixed like that or does it flip down or retaract?

Where can I buy?

Yuhki, are there any japanese web sites you know that sells that tray. I am seriously interested in buying one. I converted the yen to US dollars and it's about $77 for it.

Yuhki,

If I gave you the money, do you think you can get one for me???

Thanks,

Yes, I think some importer could make a pretty penny selling these over here as I would snap one up too. Even if I dont put a PCD in place I can use it for a slew of other displays I would like to have.

Although most likely will end up a DVD player LCD screen :D

Edit:

I found the japanese geocities website thats got the pics, instructions, etc and it looks nice. I loved how they manufactured those plexi shelves for the TV tuner and put them in the trunk. That web page gave me all sorts of dieas too. Looks like a good spot to play in.

If anybody does find someone thats selling the trays let me know as I would love to snap one up.

For the curious, http://www.geocities.jp/lase3p/RX-8/...vi_gallery.htm

Use babelfish if ya need it and enjoy. Hit Top Page to get the home links and check out all the disasembled stuff you can find. It's quite usefull.

djmano 10-27-2003 11:33 AM

take a look at their navigation setups.....it shows an actual map of what their driving on just like a video game.

in japan they now have the technology to find anybody with a cell phone that is setup with the correct transmitter, meaning anyone with a navi can find any person they want at any given time.

Genom 10-27-2003 12:28 PM

Might help that they dont have to map as much raw ground probably. The US is a big friggin place and I can see how it would be difficult to maintain that level of detail.

canzoomer 10-27-2003 11:29 PM

If interested I can bring these in for $95 US or $125 Canadian.
That price is to my place in Edmonton. Delivery to your location add $5 to $10 depending on method.

Factors that add to cost:
5% Japanese sales tax
6% duty on auto parts into Canada and USA
Freight.

Email me if interested:

I would beware buying these things from other countries. I've yet to see a system with 3D maps like that in the US. So I tend to doubt those nav units have built-in maps of the USA in them. So unless you're driving on the streets of Japan, forget about them working.

I could be all wrong and it would be very cool if these were released here, but I really doubt it.

Texagi95 11-07-2003 03:41 PM

I'm just buying the tray that sits in the dash. The Nav. system will be a US one. Haven't decided on which one to get yet.

Canzoomer, have you received your nav trays? I'm curious about measurements. I'm specifically interested in the height of the cutout of the "dish" and whether or not it's large enough to cut a hole in it to mount a DIN sized motorized LCD screen. Thanks!

canzoomer 11-10-2003 12:47 PM

I will have some here around the end of this week.

Once I get that I will post the info with dimensions and pictures.

Thanks!

Sorry for very slow reply.
The screen will be fixed by screws. no flips.
I think, in most case, the screw holes which navi screen originally have could be used to fix the screen to the tray.

See:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=15088

Outside Size is:
Wide: 9.6"
front to back: 5.6"

Size of hole cutout :
Wide: 9.1"
front to back: 5.25"

Inside size:
Wide: 8.25"
Front to back: 3.5"

Total height below dash surface: 4.125"

There are pockets to hold mounts, pivots, and holes in them for wiring, etc.

This will make a sweet setup to mount a set of gauges too..
