NAV request - Canada coverage?

I have a question for anyone who has taken delivery of a US RX-8 with the NAV system - would anyone be able to check to see if Calgary, Alberta is included in the Nav system?

I know that the newest NAVTECH maps do include Calgary along with the older Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa coverage (NAVTECH supposedly supplies the map database to Mazda), but I need to know if the RX-8 version includes Calgary. I have a chance to pick up an unsold car being delivered next week, but it has NAV - it might almost be useful if the coverage included my home city, but otherwise I think I'd pass and wait my turn on my current dealer's waiting list.

Here's an address to test: 5707 Macleod Trail South, Calgary, Alberta. (That's one of the Mazda dealers ;) ) Please let me know if the NAV system brings it up and shows streel-level detail.

Thanks for any help!

Regards,
Gordon

I assume that you are talking about Kramer Mazda just south of 55 Avenue South West by the OK Tire store? And yes it does have street level detail. I have a Garmin StreetPilot III which uses the NAVTECH maps.

BTW, what colour is the RX-8 that has the NAV and is it a 6-speed?

I'm getting my 8 with nav tomorrow. If I ever come in for a landing I'll be happy to test that address and let you know.

(edit)And woohoo... with that post I go over 100 and become a revered Senior Member. Rock on!

It's a Brilliant Black. My first choice would have been Gray, then Red, then Black...

Yeah, it's Kramer's address... but the older Navtech map set before the SPIII Deluxe didn't include Calgary in the Canada coverage. I need to know if Mazda is using the newest Navtech set - if it's an older set that doesn't include Calgary, then the NAV is almost entirely useless.

To be honest, I'd far sooner spend $1K on a SPIII Deluxe that I can use in my non-RX-8 vehicles and that I can plan routes on my computer than $3K for a Nav system that is restricted to just one vehicle... on the other hand, if it would be of some use and could put me in an RX-8 many months sooner... sigh.

Gordon

That would be great, thanks!

Well, thanks for all the help, folks! ;) It doesn't matter anymore - I found a Titanium GT with no roof or NAV that hadn't been sold yet in a small town about 700 miles closer to home. So, I get to save myself $4K Cdn over the Black one I was considering above - think I'll get myself a Garmin iQue3600 for less than 1/4 of that and have an equivalent NAV system that is also portable and tied to my contacts lists! :D

Gordon
