Nüvi360 Installation...

I have a Nuvi 360 navigation that has built in bluetooth cell phone capabilities. Rather than suction cup mine to the windsheild, I simply mounted mine where the ash tray used to be. It works great down there, except that people say they can barely hear me. This is probably partly because there is so much engine noise down there. Plus the built in mic is so far away when its down there. Another things I notice is that with that 'compartment' open, a whole lot of heat comes out of the space around my nav unit and makes my hand nice and toasty.

Where is the best place to mount an external mic? When I say best, I'm referring to both for looks (i don't want it to be very noticeable at all) and also I want the best performance, I want people to be able to hear me.

Is there anything/anyway I can cover up the whole cheaply? It doesn't have to look factory, I'm just suck of seeing the guts of my car. With the ashtray removed and the nav in there, theres about 1.5" of space on the left and right and maybe .5" of space above the unit. Is there an easy cheap way to block up all that space with *something* so it just looks black, not very noticeable, and also so it blocks most or at least some of the hot air from coming up into the cabin?

For those of you that want more detail, this mod was actually much easier than I thought it would be. With the ash tray removed, I just stuck the super sticky dashboard mount right down on the solid metal of the car. Then I stuck the suction cup to that, and the hight of the nav unit is perfect for the whole. I clipped a 12" "outlet" into the lighter wires. This way when my lease is up, I can just unplug the nav, put the lighter back in and it will be as good as new, and I can just toss my stuff into my next RX-8.

You could probably get a piece of abs plastic to go around the navigation unit in the ashtray compartment, very cheap stuff and its easy to work with too. As far as an external mic, i have no experience with that but have seen them mounted on the drivers side a-pillar up near the top on other cars so that could be something to look into as well
