My parking/trailing lights are not working wtf!!

I cant understand what might have happened... I have to drive to Pittsburgh from upstate NY in the morning.. And last night some dude on the Highway was flashing me from behind.. I m like what.... Then we stop they say to me turn your lights on.. im like they are... I park and take a look... No back riding lights.... This has never happened and i dont know what could have cuased this.. I check the fuses swaping them with others in the fuse box... In the manual it is #29.... I figure it must be a short since all other lights on the back are working except this #29 set.... anyone with any insight plz message me post somthing.. I have a long ride and def.. need some insight as to what it could be... I can do engine work and body work but... Im a Computer dude with no car wireing experience... sigh....

Hi RotorDread. It's been while since this thread but just wondering what the fix was for the park and trailing lights cos I have the same problem now.

Wingznut 06-01-2012 05:34 AM

First thing, check the bulbs.

Bulbs checked and are fine.

Basically turned on the park lights and front fog lights this morning. Drove out of the driveway and notice the fog light symbol in the dash stopped showing. Got out of the car to find both front and rear park lights, rear licence plate lights, plus the front fog lights are not working. High and low front beams are fine as well as rear stop lights.

Checked all fog light fuses all look fine. Out of ideas :(

Btw all lights have factory wiring. Can't drive at night so any help would be great.

Ah... I thought you were saying that only the rear lights weren't working.

I haven't looked at a wiring schematic, but I would think that the only place the fog light and parking light circuits intersect are at the switch itself.

Do the fog lights (or parking lights) work with the switch in the headlight position? Do the instrument cluster lights change with switch position?

Fixed!

It was the "Tail" fuse. Didn't notice it at first but there was a tiny gap in the fuse wire.

Interesting how the tail fuse is responsible for park lights, trailing lights, number plate lights and the front fog lights.

Thanks for helping out Wingznut.

Now i am having this issue. Except, i have checked everything you checked. The bulbs are okay. Even tried different light variations at the switch. Parking light setting only, low beams with fog lights, low w/o...etc.

The only difference is my fog lights do work. Just my front/rear parking lights and license plate light are not working.

Any other ideas? I really dont want to have to pay to get this looked at if i dont have to :/

If the entire series of lights all stopped at once, there's a blown fuse somewhere. A multimeter set to measure resistance can help you. Touch the leads to the fuse test points on either side of the fuse's stamped amperage rating. You can check every fuse in the panel super easily and in under 60 seconds.

I tried that and they were all okay. So out of curiosity i re-checked the bulbs and they were blown. So i just must have not looked at them close enough. I replaced them and they all are working now. But that brings me to another question. Why would they all blow like that and not blow the fuse. Its quite the coincidence that they were all out.
