My new stuff

Bought me a new amp and subs today.

The amp is this one.

The subs are two of these.

I'm going to have fiberglass enclosures made for the subs to fit in the rearmost left and right hand sides of the trunk, molded to fit the curvature of the corners. The amp and capacitor will go in the recessed cargo area, and be covered.

My current setup is for sale here in the forum, and can be seen here.

I'm thinking this will look very nice and clean when all done. Much better than what I've got now. Can't wait (but I'll have to, because I have to find the time to let my car go for a week to have the stuff installed and the enclosures built).

Could you explain a couple things to me:

1) How will you connect the amp to the HU without RCA outs? What are the options?

2) How will you determine which frequencies go to the sub and which will go to the existing speakers? Is the rest of your system stock.

Sorry for these questions but the only custom audio I have ever had (still have) was controlled by an aftermarket HU.

Thanks in advance.

In the setup that I have the now the signal is, I believe, tapped off of one of the rear 6x9s, then run through some sort of module (which has RCA outputs) to the amplifier. That seemed to be the only solution in the mind of the installers who put the first system in. We'll see what the new guy says. As far as which how to determine which frequencies go to the sub and to the speakers, I'm not sure I understand that question (I don't do this for a living or a hobby). Yes, the rest of my system is stock. I will not be installing any of this myself; that is not my forte. So, these questions that you have are not necessarily things that I have concerned myself with at this point. I'll be paying someone else to figure them out. :D

Thanks for the response. With my custom system in my other car I cut the low frequencies out of my speakers so that they only go the sub. I also have separate speakers for my highs, mids and mid bass - these have an active and then a passive crossover to determine which frequencies goes to them. I would think that one of the benefits that people who add subs to thier stock system would want is the ability to direct the lows away from the stock speakers since I don't think they handle them very well.

If anyone else has any insight into this I would be interested. I am not very knowledgeable about this stuff either...

Yeah, ideally in a multi-sized speaker setup you'd want them each tuned for their respective frequency ranges using crossovers or highpass/bandpass/lowpass filters. It should be somewhat adjustable, too, so you can fine tune the overall sound. Anyone know which is better or which is less expensive: crossovers, or filtering each speaker?

The amplifier I'm using has a lowpass filter...of course, I'm not that familiar enough with the Bose setup to know if the signal is already being filtered at the different speakers, and therefore to know what frequencies are being carried on the 6x9 lines that my amp will likely end up tapped into...

looks familiar

that will sound real good. The remote feature is cool. The auto sensing turn feature doesen't work on our 8s though. Since this pic I rewired the amp with 4 Guage wire and it sounds better for it.
