I used an old atx power supply from a pc the molex are 12v and if you short 2 pins on the main connector you can power it without a computer.

Papillon 01-02-2013 04:53 PM

So if I connect 1O and 1Q to the poz. lead a car battery and 1P to the negative would that work? Is that correct at all?

yeah that's right but don't forget to fuse them.
the 1O is the acc power so when power is put onto this it acts like a switch and the hood will flip up.

if you want the lights on the hood to work as well run a v- to 1x and a positive to 1v (take the power from the cigarette lighter bulb and it wll come on when you turn your car lights on)

Attachment 288961

for testing i found having something i could work on indoors handy so an old pc power supply was perfect and cheap and it already had the wires i could use to test, just ripped them out of the molex connecters and put them onto the pins on the hood.

at first my hood wouldn't open and close, only close when it was opened, it was one of 2 things, either the ribbon cable wasn't in fully or the gears on the motor weren't aligned, so if it looks like yours isn't working try opening the hood manually and seeing if power will close it. if not then you're good to go

Thanks. Im gonna try this with an old battery I have in the house when (if) my hood arrives.

Im currently in the process of a Nexus 7 install in my rx8. Putting it in the factory Navigation Unit. Taken it all apart and used a dremel to make space inside where the lcd screen is so the nexus 7 can fit.

Waiting for the Asus Nexus 7 dock to come out (Jan 16) which im gonna take apart and install inside the nav unit cover thingy.

Also im making it removable so making a little strip on the top of the cover flip open so i can pull out the nexus 7 (working on a mechanism/idea for this)

Also with the nexus 7 dock which uses pogo pins and has a micro usb port and aux port at the back i can easily just slide in the nexus 7 and it will start charging and audio will be hooked up with the factory dash instantly.

If anyone else wants to join me or is doing something similar give me a PM or post up here and we can help each other out

I'm doing the same project with a SAMSUNG 7.7 "(p6800)
I'm hoping that I get the motor control board to attach it to arduino and operate the mechanism lockable engine aperturay as they put the friend "Daisun" I just lack the wiring diagram to connect the buttons to the plate and prove operation.
I join the project.

In my ongoing effort to stay ahead of the curve I am seriously considering a google box w/ HDMI out to a lilliput screen with a touchpad where the factory nav controls go in the console.

Looking for one of the newer RK3066 models with integrated BT. Should be fun.

Never satisfied?

You know you can just use the factory motor board? you dont really need to set it up with the arduino if you think about it..

Daisun 01-17-2013 03:54 AM

You don't need an Arduino but with an Arduino you can control the charging of the tablet. Assuming the use of the original PCB, the tablet would only ever charge when the car is on. Most people don't drive the necessary 2-3hrs to fully charge it.

In my current set up the Arduino is always on. When the car is switched off the tablet will continue to charge for another 3hrs.

I've found that with the Arduino always on the car will run out of battery in about 3-4 days if not driven. To solve this you need to sleep the Arduino and then wake it with an interrupt. The best way is to wire the ignition signal to one of interrupt pins, one of them is pin 2, I've forgot the other one. If you use the interrupt pins in this way when you turn the ignition the Arduino will wake from sleep and resume normal operation.

I did the same with a 7" Identity tablet which has all connections to the sides (as you may have experienced, there is hardly any room left when the tablet is in place).
I managed to keep the car's oem control of the hood by relocating the circuit board under the unit and lengthen the wires for the electric motor.
That way, the circuit board doesn't block the GPS of the tablet.
I also kept the tilt option of the hood.
I made a micro switch which switches the leds in the buttons of the casing off when the hood retracts.
I connected the tablet through the headphone out to the car's audio by a xCarlink module (which is an additional mp3 player as well)).
The xCarlink module won't work with firmware v9.81 or 10.xx or higher.
Mine has v.9.64.

Here's the link to our dutch forum:

Video:

I'm using Torque for engine data and Sygic for navigation.
Recently added Racing Meter and an automatic switch off for the screen when it flips forward (Screen Off TL) which works with the tablet's sensor.

Daisun...nice work! .... Do you have a Bluetooth solution for this setup?

whats goin on Daisun. im new to the community. my rx8 is coming in 10 days and i want to do the same thing to my car right away. the only difference is i dont really want to use the dashboard app. the only problem that i am having difficulty understanding is how did you get the tablet to be powered by the car. what did you do and what did you use?

My nexus 7 is powered by a standard 12V usb charger.
I removed the plastic covers on the charger, then soldered cables to the print board and connected them to the accessories power via a standard 30 relay

After this I did a mod on the tablet so that it powers on whenever it gets power from the charger.

Please elaborate on your power up on charge solution... Was thus done via a custom kernel?

Power up on charge i used this mod

The custom kernel is for allowing both usb devices like keyboard and a usb dac to be connected to the tablet, and at the same time allow charging via an usb y-cable.

The custom kernel used was Timur's kernel

That's just silly. I wonder what other fastboot options we have. I'm definitely doing this one.

>fastboot oem off-mode-charge 0

I've seen Timur's kernel. If I ever go the hardwired otg route its at the top of my list.

Thanks dude!

I love the flexibility of android, and if you also buy the Tasker app there is infinite posibilities of cool stuff to do with the tablet

lazyboijetson 08-05-2013 04:54 PM

is there any way possible to connect the tablet charging capabilities to the motor that makes the hood move up and down? if so any suggestions on the.

Mybe you guys will know,
I have a Samsung Tab 2 7.0 and want to know if its possible to input a VGA video signal into the Tab 2 so that it can be watched on the Tab's screen?
I have found a couple of adapter cables that will convert VGA signal from RCA output to USB and then a USB to Samsung 30 pin plug.
If this is possible what software would the Samsung Tab need to use for this to work?
Thanks any help would be much appreciated.

I have never tried this, but take a look on this android controlled relay

Wow, this is all going over my head...I'm electrically retarded. This is a very interesting project and I want to do this so bad but I'm afraid that I will get everything that I need and not be able to get it to do a damn thing.
One question I have is, I know there is an adapter that connects to the factory head unit. It uses a USB end and you can plug in a flash drive, you can load all your music on your flash drive and be able to use the steering wheel controls for volume and next track function:
GROM Mazda USB/iPod/iPhone/Aux Adapter

If you had your tablet hooked to this would you have function of the steering wheel contols?

Sorry for asking a bunch of questions, I would just hate to tear my car apart and spend over $400for nothing!
