Mounting PDA GPS - Where and with what adhesive?
 

I have a turned my PocketPC into GPS and it rocks... I just need to figure out how to mount the damn thing in my car. I bought a Garmin dash mount and fab'd a mount to the back of my pocketPC.
For the dash I tried using both of the supplied adhesive strips, 1 - repositionable and 1 for permentant. Well neither of them stuck whatsoever. So I was wondering if anyone could recommend what adhesive to buy.... I want to be able to remove it once I get rid of the car, i.e. with solvent or whatever... but I need something. I contemplated magnets...one under the center dash and the other liquid nailed to the mount but the only ones that were powerful enough were ugly and bulky.


Any help would be much appreciated!

I made a mount for mine from T6 acft grade aluminum

It just slips between the hard plastic and the textured rubber of the dash. No adhesive or tape! Pulls out and leaves no marks! Had it in for a week and when I pulled it out there was no marks at all on the dash!

The mount in the previous posts looks cool...I haven't seen it in person, but I like the pictures. If you are interested in another way. Do a search for the thread I setup when I mounted my 7" LCD Touch screen using a cell phone goosneck mounted through the pre-existing hole next to the glove box.

DUDE! Rotary nut! that is exactly where I want to mount mine at!!!!!

How do you attach it to the dash? screwed in underneath the center piece some how?

ah, I read your thread Rotary Nut, damn. I have no knowledge of bending aluminum whatsoever.... if you decide to produce these, please let me know. Or if I pay you, could you produce me a single?

No it just jams between the soft and hard parts of the dash as I stated in my post, no adhesives, no screws. It is tight enogh to hold the PDA with GPS and does not move. To remove you just pull it out!

I would also love one of those mounts,,, I would use it for my cell phone instead!

Rotary Nut, you GOTTA do a DIY on this! I too am thinking of uses for this slick mounting system of yours. Or alternatively, you could manufacturer and sell them...

I'll see what I could do to help ya'll out. I just have to remember to take pictures! It only took me about 2 hours to actually make it but I let the paint cure overnight!
