Has anyone replaced the 2" midrange speakers mounted up on the front doors with some tweeters?

Would doing this then give you nice highs but no mid range? That's what I'm thinking...I guess the only other option is just to ADD tweeters to the existing mid-ranges, but I didn't want it to be obvious that I've done any stereo upgrades (ie. less chance of a break-in).

If you have the Bose this might apply to you:
Yes, I did and works great.
Image Dynamics has a set of tweeters that will go as low as and higher than the Bose.
Sound is crisper and blends right in with the Bose 9" in the doors.

When you replaced the Bose tweeters did you start hearing the dreaded "hiss" through the new speakers whether the head unit was on or off? That was one unintended consequence some members mentioned when they replaced their tweeters.
Just askin' is all...

Yeah, a small hiss is there...
You have to listen for it, but sadly it's there.
Strange thing, only when the engine is running and radio on.

When replacing the tweeters from the BOSE, do you use the filter thats on the stock bose speaker? I got some focals off ebay and wanted to install them correctly.

Yes I used the OEM Bose filters....
Did not try doing to without them, maybe an idea!
Focals should be nice to....

The Image Dynamics make a HUGE difference in the sound quality. I couldn't believe it. I just sat in my car and listened to track after track, it was that good. I removed the BOSE filter and used the Image Dynamics mount and filter so that I could adjust the angle of this units. In my opinion this is the single most cost effective improvement you can make to the BOSE sound system without making a serious investment in replacing all the other audio components. It's well worth it.

Is there any other type of hz blocking on the bose system? Wouldn't these tweeters blow at high volumn with low hz going into them?

The stock midrange unit has a frequency filter installed with the speaker, for this reason. It can be re-used with the Image Dynamics.

Beats the hell out of me...I'm using some old Clarion tweeters from my last system. Sounds great. I replaced one and left one in so I could tell the difference and it's definitely noticeable.

I'm not saying I recommend doing this...just that it's what I've done and it seems to be working so far.

I just changed the Bose tweeters for Boss TW-15 tweeter (~$15). This tweeter already comes with its filter.

Specifications are:
Peak power handling --- 250 watt

Bose system already comes with a mid range center speaker (center frequency should be around 1KHz), then they added the tweeters with mid-to-high responce. That is the reason I believe we all complain about way to much mids from Bose system.

The Boss TW-15 tweeter I'm using now is mainly for highs (>2KHz). Leaving the mid-frequencies for the center speaker. The Image Dynamics NX30 ( $89 ; RMS power: 100 Watts; Frequency response: 900Hz - 25KHz; Sensitivity: 91dB) respond to mid frequencies, which in my opinion is bad because we have way too much mid-frequencies already comming from the center-speaker.

I love the way it sound now . I have a little bit less mid frequencies (frequencies around 1KHz -> voice), and much better highs. I spent $15 for the tweeters, and about 1 hour using my dremel and my soldering pen (I like to solder instead of wrapping wires). I got the tweeter from a local audio store, but they are also available online.

Well that helps then. Adding the <1.2khz filter will give me a little mids but block out all the lows that will kill the tweeter at high volume.

You can just add an capacitor in series:

So, for freq=1200Hz and 4 Ohms, C is ~33uF. So you just need an axial Electrolitic capacitor of that value (or close to it).

Well, my install went very well. I installed some Focal TN45s with some bassblockers and wiring kits for a really clean install.

The difference in sound is great. There are now distinct highs and clearer mids. I have previously added a Kicker 10" with a kicker 200.1 amp. With the sub and the tweeters i have added i believe i have made a fantastic upgrade on the stereo for the price i have paid.

I mounted the tweeters just by using some washers on the screws the bose were mounted on. They grab hold of the edge of the tweeter housing and hold them very firmly in place. I had to cut, glue, soder nothing for the installation.

Are you sure that is the right harness you used? Your link goes to item 12071039 which Crutchfield shows as the REAR speaker harness. They show item 12071048 to be the front speaker harness. Of course they don't say if this is for the tweeter or the midrange.....

Also, assume these were just Metra parts? If so, got the Metra number for them?

Those are definaltly the harnesses i got. They fit perfectly. They are for the "rear" speakers because crutchfield doesnt have ANY items for the fronts. im sure the harnesses work for all the speakers in the bose setup.

I threw away the packaging of them. If this is where the Metra number is, im sorry. If they are on the harness itself i can let you know if you like.

i ordered a set of the Boss TW-15 tweeters. can u guys please let me know what the best way to block out the bass would be? stock bose filter or the included filter in the boss tweeters?
