M flash and DVD upgrade today

Today I took my 8 into the dealer to get the new M flash, and to upgrade the DVD software. First lets talk abou the DVD upgrade. I followed the instructions online to "erase" the old software. When I took it in I just told them that I usually dont use the Nav system, and that my brother recently drove my car and told me that the nav wasnt working. Anyway, they said it wasnt a problem and that they will look at it. After seeing it they said I just need to upgrade the software. Ok thats sounds great. Well I went to go pick up the car and they told that they have to replace the WHOLE nav unit. hmmmm.... dunno bout this. They said they tried to reload the software but it would not work, so they called Mazeda HQ and they said that they ahve had some reports about that NAV's going out and they needed to be replaced. THis is a surprise because I know I just erased the software, but oh well, a new drive wouldnt hurt i guess. It seems uncecessary though, but its covered under warranty.

ok now the m flash. All seems fine, but when I got home today and shut the engine off, it seemed that a fan or something didnt turn off. I heard a whirring noise coming from the engine. I thought maybe it was supposed to happen, so I let it go, after maybe 1.5 min wihtout it shutting off I got a little worried, so I stuck the key in the ignition and turned the key (not all the way to start it), and the whirring stopped. I hope this isnt a reoccurring issue. Aside from that I dont really notice anything about the M flash yet. I'll update once I get that new NAv installed. by the way I take my car to Mazda Direct for those that are in Columbus. Ricart is too far away and Byeres is HORRIBLE. hate them!
Mazda Direct is just too great to work with so far.
Peace

hmm maybe this belongs in tech

the fan goes on to cool the engine coolant that is red hot. It will stay on until the tempture is safe to shut off. Turning the car on then off again resets this. I don't recommend it.

I've found that the fan will stay on usually 2-10 minutes.

I'm in FL. about 98 degrees here.

It is completely normal.

Things are just thawing out inthe north. I bet we see more people posting about the fan as things heat up.

got my car back on wed and the new nav system is pretty sweet. They should totally offer the upgrade for free i think. I still dont know why they said they had to replace the whole unit. (probably since it is under warranty work mazda pays them).
