it's summer! and my right hand burns...

... from the **** shift knob. anybody have any solutions for this?

I'm looking at purchasing a mazdaspeed shift knob, but the pain doesn't feel like it's worth $100. anybody have any suggestions (aside from not parking the car outside)? I'm thinking of looking for a baby-sized ankle sock from like fubu or ecko, but that may just be too ghetto...

brattesani 06-01-2006 04:52 PM

use the sock and take if off when u start to drive?

jstkilntim 06-01-2006 07:04 PM

Try a windshield sunscreen. Makes a big difference in inside temp. Saves the upholstery, dash etc. in the long run too.

Or get some cool driving gloves! :nono:

a sock works good, but anyone else gettin the summer driving tan? (left arm's a little tanner than the right)?

jstkilntim 06-01-2006 07:41 PM

I guess it is popular somewhere, but if you ever look in my car & I have a sock on my shifter, shoot me!

Something every man should have on their knob.

jstkilntim 06-01-2006 08:28 PM

^^ That's way too big for my knob. (Did I say that?)

Yeah, leather driving gloves. I have winter and summer sets. Wilson Leather Store in your local mall.

I know this sounds ugly (and it is kinda), but I keep a small piece of reynold's wrap in my glove box. When I park here in NC for any length of time, I simply rubberband it onto the shift knob, shiny side up. Not the prettiest solution, but it gets the job done. Does anyone know if tinting helps this?

An iPod sock is exactly the right size for the shifter and has a bit more class than a baby sock. The winshield screen helps a lot, though during the summer here in Phoenix it can still be undriveable without the sock, too.

That's a good thought. Something nice looking which matches the interior perhaps?

driving gloves, i just don't feel right without them.

Former A4'er 06-02-2006 11:37 AM

Try the DPE shift knob, mine stays ice cold in the summer...... :knob:

Actually I think I gave myself a pretty good burn yesterday, just park in a shady area if you can.

...or close the solid shade insert on your sunroof if that applies.

That helps too, so does good window tint. Get a shade for your front windshield and you should be set.

Tayler 06-02-2006 05:21 PM

If the baby socks don't work you could just suck it up and be a man. Isn't there something or other about pain with pleasure?

:bootyshak

Get a shade for the front and good QUALITY tint for the sides and back and your good to go. Mine sits in the direct Florida sunshine all day while I'm at the office. Never had a problem with hot leather seats or shifter knob.

:D:

i've blistered my hand before after the car sat in the sun for 9 hours...it's like like having your partner beat you during sex..not that im into that, but i do like when my 8 bites me back

ndtechie09 06-07-2006 11:11 AM

:tear:You have got to be kidding me! Socks, driving gloves, WTF. Why don't you just hire a limo? It will be cool when it picks you up. Obviously none of you have ever had a convertible!!:tear:

Aw, c'mon - driving gloves don't just protect our soft, sissy hands (curse of the desk-bound day-worker); they look good too!

No need to mock. You must indulge in some comforts - do you put cream or sugar in your coffee or thumbtacks? :mdrmed:

jstkilntim 06-07-2006 09:58 PM

Damn, you are on to me. Just never thought I would be reading these types of problems & suggestions from men.:nopity: Shows what I know.

Driving gloves do not look good!
