I am a relatively new RX-8 owner and have found various threads (mostly old by now) for hacking a connection through the CD player (not desirable) or through a custom module (sylflex.com) which I think is no longer available.

I have found a couple of items that may work:

My car has the OEM single CD player in it, though it has a Tape/MD button on the head unit. Anyone have experience with the first item (or something like it) that would give me the aux input I need for an ipod? Ideally it would charge and let me control from the head unit, but I am completely satisfied with just an input and I would charge/control the old fashioned way.

I found a product that works for all firmware versions, etc. Just weren't any picture after install. I contacted the company direct for some additional info.

I used the OEM ipod connector with the single CD head unit. I use it with my iphone and it works ok. Only thing is it does not charge the phone.

 

I used an AudioLink in my 8 for a long time. Charged my ipod and played the music through the head unit. Even lets you control the ipod through the steering wheel and stereo controls. You wire it through the external CD changer port on the HU. Don't have an ipod anymore but I'd recommend the AudioLink...I think its called XCarLink now though.

I routed it into the storage space in between the seats. I'll show pictures if you want. My car's an 06 though, but I'm guessing it'd be the same?
