Install Problems

2 Attachment(s)
Well as I posted in another thread, my car was already wired and had the amp wires ran to the back. I went out and purchased an amp and a sub.

Well I was trying to hook up the amp, but can't seem to get any power to it.

I have always been use to the power wire, ground, remote, and RCAs. Well, this one has the RCAs, ground, power... and then it has a set of 3 more wires which are very thin. Blue (Remote I assume), Red, and Black.

Not sure what those are there for and I can't seem to get the amp to power on. I checked the power cable and it is ran and connected to the positive battery terminal.

There is what looks like an inline fuse holder in the engine bay, but I do not see a fuse in it. I can't tell if one goes there or not, and if so what size. I took some pics that I will post shortly. Any guidance is appreciated.

you definalty need a fuse, you need a blade type fuse that looks like a regular car fuse just bigger, autozone and bestbuy both carry up to about 60 amps I think, which is plenty.

as for the wires - don't guess, pull out a voltmeter and test with the key turned and off, he may have had a signal sensing on/off and didn't work with a remote wire. if none of those wires are good for you then run one from the rear cig lighter in the center console.

what kind of amp/sub did you go with?

You were right, it was the fuse. I threw a 30A in there, so hopefully that will hold.

I picked up a brand new JL 10W1 sub and an Alpine MRP-M450 amp. That is more than enough to make the car thump pretty loud and rattle everything. There is an annoying rattle inside the doors too.

I put the sub in a temporary box until I get my 4080 box.

I haven't turned the amp settings up very far, as I'm really not knowledged enough to know where exactly to set them.

JL audio has a pretty good info page, with step by step instructions for setting up a system if you've never done it before, check it out Here

At least read the "Amplifier Input Sensitivity" one. As for all of the rattles, yeah this car is bad about them, you just have to hunt them down one by one and Dynamat them or something. It's a pain but the listning experience improves with each one you find.

I'm glad the install went as easy as it did for you I hope you enjoy your new system.
