Install Completed! Top Dash Kit Alpine D-310 LCD/DVD with iPod Video Aux Input

yeahh baby... The installation is completed

Parts Used:
Japan Mazda OEM Top Dash Kit from Speedline International. $209.00 USD
Alpine D-310 touch screen 7 inch LCD/DVD 1 Din Unit. $811.00 USD
iPod Video 80Gb, concert videos, music videos, films, TV shows, Daily News.
ProClip Ipod Video Mount for the right side of the rx8 dash
1 Ipod video AUX video output wire, $30.00 CDN. plugs into the alpine amp.

The screen is motorized to open and close, it looks great, the sound is perfect, the Center Console still has full power and the 6 CD changer can be plugged in as a 2nd AUX input. Dash still lights up, AC fine etc etc.

My question to you, How do i get the steering wheel controls to manage the volume levels of the Alpine D310?? Someone told me this is possible and I dont know where to look.

Here are some pics.

Kooollll...so are you going to drive and watch tv? :rollingla:

K...I want one too....But then again...maybe not because I might just smash into someone speeding up my rear...

Hey Leesha, Yea i am watching and driving, bad boy i know, but i dont find it that distracting. As long as you're not watching something too action packed like james bond then its not like u gotta focus on the screen and lose attention of the road. Instead i find myself just glancing over from time to time to see whats going on. I guess if u have a short attention span and cant do more than one thing at a time then this setup can be very dangerous. But for most ppl i think its worthwhile.

In all honesty I think its more of a distraction for the drivers in the cars around me who turn there heads a full 90 degrees to watch my tv. Thats why im tinting my windows to the legal limit ASAP lol...

Leesha 07-10-2007 02:33 PM

But weren't you the one I saw with tinted windows on the QEW?? I'm doing my windows tonight...can't wait...or this evening...6:30ish...

Leesha 07-10-2007 02:35 PM

How much did it cost to do all that? I want one to for real...

That looks totally awesome...

How does the screen come up?

MazdaJeff 07-10-2007 02:38 PM

Looks good.

I was thinking of going that route, but in the end, I wanted a little more of a stealth look.

They are not watching your TV . . . They are looking to see what kind of person is crazy enough to watch TV while driving, that's just plain retarded . . . It doesn't matter how many things you "think" you can do at the same time, you are diverting attention and more importantly your eyes from the road and what's going on around you. One extra second may be all that's required to avoid an accident at speed, spend that second watching TV and the game is up. You are going to wreck your car or kill somebody . . .

Yes, the entire dash is still fully functional, Air conditoning, Heating, The Clock, temperature display and the stereo/6cd changer works perfectly plugged in as an extra aux input.

Only difference is (for now) that my steering wheel controls only control the volume of the main dash and not my video yet. I am getting the swi-jack that Lurch mentioned so that the steering wheel controls work for everything. Im just trying to find a distributor in Canada or someone who'll ship it cross the border.

just cuz i can, i figured i needed to keep the power going on the center console and might as well keep that 6cd changer for spinning my 6 best cds. Just convenience.

I'd have to agree... if talking on a cell phone is supposed to mess with reaction time similar to being drunk, I can only imagine that watching something else would be just as bad if not worse...
