Infinity Kappa 10.9t Tweeters

Hi all,

I just picked up a set of Infinity Kappa 10.9t Tweeters to replace the front tweeter/midrange speakers in the doors. I got them on sale from Crutchfield for about $80+ shipping.

I was amazed at how good a fit the Infinitys are and thought I'd share for those of you guys looking for a near perfect fit replacement.

I haven't installed these yet as I'm planning on swapping out the rest of the Bose system. I still need to get the rest of the speakers and replacement amp to complete the swap, but want to do the install all at once. Can't wait to get the rest of the stuff to enjoy the sound of my new Kenwood DDX-712. :)

Cheers!

Let us know once they are installed. I am curious how much of a difference it would be if I was to just replace these.

You bet...

I have to admit, I'm really tempted to install them now. But with my current setup with the Kenwood DDX-712 headunit w/ the Bose Amps, I get a decent bit of electrical noise. That's the only thing holding me back. With these tweeters, I'm sure the alternator whine would drive me nuts!

Ok, so I am confused. I thought from the sticky the Tweeters are 2"? These are listed as 1" on Crutchfield. Did I miss something?

^^im interested in doing this as well

The actual tweeter is one inch, but the casing it's in makes it about two inches. Its a bit deceiving based on the product description, but it works out in our favor. :)

gregs: Nice photo work of your car.

Any word on how these sound? I really want to upgrade all 4 tweeters and add a single 8" woofer in a custom box that fits in the trunk recess.

Jedi54 03-10-2009 06:23 PM

Never fear, Jedi is here!!

I have a pair of these installed in my car and they are AWESOME! Absolute night and day compared to the bose speakers that I threw in the trash.
Not to hijack this thread but you guys can do a search for Jedi's Stereo Upgrade and see the other Infiniti speakers that went into my build.

InfiniFC, can't wait to hear what you think of them once they're installed.

Jedi,

Thanks for the reply and awesome setup! I, however, don't really want to spend that much time or money on that project. How do you think these will do if I ONLY replace the four stock tweeters with these and add say an 8 subwoofer in the trunk? My main concern seems to be the frequency response, most notably on the low end.

My other option is to go onto parts-express and pick up a matching set of 2 and 3" mid-range speakers. Examples:

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=264-805

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=264-815

I could also, in either case, nab a set of the nifty 2 Ohm Infinity 6x9s from Crutchfield. Everything would match the original Bose speaker's impedance, not screwing with power transfer!

While I am on crazy ideas, I am happy with the base level produced by the stock 9" door woofers...when cranked up to like 20-22  If I dynomated the doors, is there some sort of line level bass booster I could install which would allow me to remotely adjust the bass level, like on a remote amplifier? I guess I could build my own device, using a low-pass filtered OPAMP and have a remote potentiometer with which to control the signal boost. My other crazy thought was to add small resistors in parallel with each tweeter, 6x9 and center speaker to act as a current attenuator over the ENTIRE frequency spectrum. In other words, I run the entire system at say volume 25 to get the same volume output as stock level 15, with exception of the door woofers which would be running at 25. Just throwing out some cost effective ideas to boost the stock system to acceptable levels without breaking the bank!

HAHAH!!!! Yay for search! https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/%40all-german-thoughts-rx-8-audio-system-w-pic-11332/ Seems as if somebody else already had this idea. I just want to take and use it differently.... Thoughts?

I ditched the Bose tweeters because, like Jedi said, they are crap. One of my favorite mods ever!

I'm glad they turned out well in your car Jedi! I can't wait to install mine. I tire quickly from the alternator whine that I get from the BOSE amps.

I have pretty much everything I need to do my install, but got hit with a slew of car problems I need to address first.

(high resistance in the airbag circuitry (DTC B1999), possible bad coils from an unexplained limp mode, and busted sway bar endlink). :(

I have these same tweeters. Did you use the supplied crossovers? Or did you just plug these directly into the stock wiring?
If you used the crossovers, where did you mount them?

Jedi54 04-10-2009 10:43 AM

I don't think I used the cross over for the front tweeters. for the rears I mounted them behind the panels next to the rear seats.

Dodgy 09-04-2011 06:55 PM

I have just put these in my RX8. The Bose tweeter was absolute shite - only Bose would consider such a cheap and nasty paper cone driver to be a 'tweeter'.

I have briefly tried them without the crossover, but in my opinion they need the crossover. The Bose tweeter had a cap in series mounted on the back of the tweeter, which was no doubt their high quality crossover.

I have placed the Infinity crossover in front of the window switch panel. It appears to fit okay and means that I can tap into the wiring without much drama.

Does anyone know if the Bose has an active crossover setup, or is that cap on the tweeter the only crossover for the tweeter?

thanks

Stars25 11-24-2011 03:30 PM

I just purchased a pair of these to replace the bose tweeters, but how did you guys mount them in place of the bose tweeters?

Also, did you use the crossover that came with the 10.9t tweeters or no?

Kirill Morozov 04-19-2015 06:57 PM

Wanted to ask same question as last one, do I need to use the cross over for 10.9t tweeters and where to place it, I have stock Bose system right now

Cheers

^ You need to use a crossover, or you will eventually blow them.

I installed a set of these in my car and loved the high end detail, but the high lower limit on the frequency response created a very noticeable hole in the midrange between the Infinity tweeter and the Bose woofer. I ended up swapping them out for a pair of Alpine tweeters, which go all the way down to 1,000Hz. That closed up the hole nicely, and the Alpines are a better sonic match to the remaining Bose crap.

Here is my rather lengthy stereo installation thread:
