Infinity Crossover placement opinion...check out the pic!

Sup guys.. need some input on where i want to place my crossovers. .. reason i chose that place is because its the only place on the door panel with room for it... i was thinking of putting it where the stock bose door amp would be... but i dont think there would be room to properly mount the door trim back... so i need your input on the placement.. its only stuck on there by 2 strips of scotch tape =) just for the sake of taking the picture...i will ofcourse use a better kind of 2 sided tape if i decide to put it there...

The good:
1) the inside of the door where the window is too spacious not to use.
2) keeps everythign nice and neat.
3) no need to run wires all the way to the trunk like some pictures i've seen

The bad:
1) might get wet??? I dont think it gets wet in there... there are too many horizontal surfaces inside the door panel but still.. its something to think about...

I did that in a prior car and had no problems with it, although i hae no experience with the rx-8 and aftermarket audio.

i would place on the inside side of the door, as water can get in and run down the inside of the outside part.

makes sense... anyone here know if the inside of the door panel actually gets wet?

It probably does, seeing that the window will get wet and it will lower into the door. I would not put it there.
You already mentioned the location that's perfect for it - the Bose door amp location. That's where I have my Focal crossovers and there is ample space.

I remember reading a thread where a guy used a plexi baffle and could actually see his door filling up with water when it rained. I definitely wouldn't put it there....

i would put it in the door pocket

Second that...I even reused a screw hole there to attach it.

There's something definitely wrong there. It is not supposed to fill up - this isn't a fish tank. Water will probably get in there but it should drain out. Maybe the drain holes were plugged up - but that should not happen.

I used all three of the screw holes to attach mine :)
It only took some simple fabrication of brackets using a metal strip - just a few minutes to do.

I'm sure they were plugged, but it proves that quite a bit of water flows through that area.

It was I that posted about the door filling with water. With the vehicle being only 1 day old and dropped off here at the shop, the chance of the drain holes being plugged, zero. I also checked of course. This is actually a known problem in this vehicle. A truckload of water goes into the door up around the mirror area and just happens to pour right down where you want to put that crossover.

Never ever ever, put a crossover on the inside of a door or in a door where there is no vapour barrier. They have a nasty habit of rusting and falling apart. There is a thread started somewhere with some pics in it of the door panels that I did. You should be able to mount your crossovers in the same area of the door panel on the backside of it. No cutting the panels and as it is on the inside of the moisture barrier, no moisture related issues. Do a search for the thread.

hmmm.. i was playing around with it yesterday and the crossover seems too long to put in the stock door amps. I'll play around with it again and see what i can come up with.

Here is a link to show a pic of the door panel, response #53, first pic. The crossover is in the bottom corner where the door open marker light is. You should easily be able to mount it on the backside of the panel in the same area using some 3M double sided tape.

So i guess you removed this foam part then to mount that right?

Yes I did.
